| Windows Genuine Advantage (KB892130) Failed in Windows Update
I tried the easier solutions to this problem..the ones microsoft themselves told me to do, I ran that diagnostic test too....now the only thing left for me to do is type some crap at the command prompt or go into the system registry and do some things people have said to do on here. Since this is a problem being had by lots of folks, I am more keen on doing nothing and waiting for MS to fix the problem which they should do right? Or is that wishful thinking? |

It's affecting plenty of legitimate and genuine users. This screwup by Microsoft is the reason against the whole WGA program in the first place. No, you are wrong. Only folks that "think" they have a legitimate Windows XP license are affected. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Microsoft Community Newsgroups news://msnews.microsoft.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------*---------------- "Dr. Fever" wrote: | It's affecting plenty of legitimate and genuine users. Wake up and smell the coffee Carey .... preciously validated systems are being affected; like mine. The only thing wrong with my licensees are that they are Windows'2000, which until 10-days ago validated just fine thank you very much, with each now simply returning that Validation Failed because I'm using an unsupported Operating System! So much for your wanting me to buy valid licenses. I already own 10, or more, Windows'XP licenses, all valid, all purchased at retail, but none of which I will ever use, excepting maybe as either wall- or toilet-paper. All I want is to be able once again to use, with impunity, either Windows or Microsoft Update for each of my Windows'2000 licenses; nothing more, nothing less. It was not my fault that I've foolishly had to re-install the Os since each of my computers being wiped out by my local Public Utility's Power Grid failure; and having paid for the damn software once, I shouldn't have to beg to validate it either. WjHat's wrong with you people. You must all think you are God. Warren C. E. Austin Toronto, Canada Toronto.Carey Frisch [MVP] wrote: > No, you are wrong. I have the installation media too! I have been using Windows Update (via the Tools menu in IE) every Tuesday. I have the KB892130 problem starting yesterday. It appears that your statement (quoted above) is quite wrong. I have seen complaints about this problem (dated ca 2006 March 1) all over usenet news and Google. This problem might be more subtle than a simple permissions issue. I have tried running IE from a SYSTEM account and the KB892130 still fails. It appears to me that Microsoft has pushed out a new version of their fraud detector software, and it is incompatible with some Windows environments. I am continuing to work on this, and I hope that Microsoft is too. Because of this issue, I have started reading this ng for the first time. I am amazed at the quantity of useless posts here, often from various Microsoft professionals. Like you. Hello if you are experiencing this problem I would like to assist. The update creates a log file in your windows directory called wga.log. If you could email me that file at gacald@microsoft.com I may be able to determine the cause of the problem. I guess, by looking at Carey's answers, that it doesn't take muchg to get the MVP tag after your name. We all have genuine copies of XP (mine came with my 2 Gateways). The update tool just does not work and gives no explanation as to why. I do not know why we are all puzzled as this looks like another "rush" job by our favorite software providers in Washington State. I am in the UK, and am experiencing exactly the same update problem with this stupid Validation Tool on my machine, which has a genuine copy of XP SP2 installed, and which has updated perfectly until 20th February, including the previous (and original) validation process.. I rather take exception to Mr Frisch who seems to suggest that I am a liar. I would like this problem resolved - rather quickly, too. In my case, going to <http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/Validate.aspx> said that I was validated. I found that if I went to download: <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...99d37c3-4013-4 8de-b950-ee01256aaa92&DisplayLang=en> which is what I actually wanted in the first place, then it says "validation required", does the validation & gives me the download.
