| STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component}
I've gotten as far as running 'batch spuninst.txt', but now when I go to reboot in safemode I still get the blue screen of death with the error STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component} This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Any ideas on how to work around this using the command prompt? (Other than reformatting.) Any help would be appreciated. |

I found this; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318159&sd=RMVP I tried to go back on my configuration on my Compaq 2100; the result on restarting was the Blue Screen of Death with the error message flashing across before the laptop switched off and restatrted itself only to keep on doing the same thing. It wont even staert in safe mode, or reboot in safemode I still get the blue screen of death with the error STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component} This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. I cant reinstall because it won'y stay on long enough for Re-installing to occue!!! |

| RE: STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component}
I guess you've probably sorted this by now, but my wife had this problem today. When I tried to boot in safe mode, I got the same error and when I tried to go back to the last good configuration I got the same error. This is how I fixed it (there are probably other ways)... I booted the PC using a bootable XP CD which I made using BartPE (http://www.nu2.nu/bootablecd/). There was actually a C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winsvr.dll on the 'faulty' PC, but I figured it could have become corrupt. I then copied the file across from my notebook which I knew was at a very similar level of Windows Updates and hence it was likely that they had the same version of the file (in the event, they both had 5.1.2600.2751). To do this I used a USB memory stick. I had another go at rebooting the PC and this time it booted OK. So far there doesn't appear to be any other residual problems. I don't know what caused it. My wife said that she'd been using the PC OK and she just shut it down as normal. I did a full virus scan and it came up clean. Oh, well... Hope that might help somebody. |

| Service Pack 3 Problem
The same thing happened to me yesterday, and today I finally figured out a simple fix for it when nothing else worked. I simply went to the Control Panel, selected ADD or REMOVE, and deleted Microsoft Service Pack 3. My computer returned to the previous Service Pack 2 update after that. Make sure you select Display Updates at the top of the ADD or REMOVE window so Service Pack 3 will display (in alphabetical order) in the populated field. |
