    pleasse call support

AS I live in Sri Lanka i cannot call support.

Now, after some changes, I get error: [Error number: 0x800B0003]

The error 0x800B0003 occurs in your Windows Update.log due to mismatch in digital signature. This
issue can be fixed by enabling "use http 1.1 through proxy connections" in Internet Options.

To enable "use http 1.1 through proxy connections"

    1. After Opening Internet Explorer click Tools / Internet Options.
    2. Click the Advanced Tab.
    3. Remove the check from use HTTP 1.1
    4. Place a check in Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.
    5. Attempt to access the Windows Update site again.
    6. If you are still experiencing difficulties with the update site, try
having both HTTP 1.1 and HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections checked.

Neither of that works. Still get [Error number: 0x800B0003]

Try re-registering the dll's mentioned in this article

Since you have SP2 installed, open IE and go to Tools>Manage Add-ons and
ensure that WUWebControl Class (if using Windows Update) or MUWebControl
class (if using Microsoft Update) is listed and enabled.

MUWebControl is listed & enabled under show:
"Add-ons that have been used by IE" but not under:
    "Add-ons currently loaded in IE"

Have tried all that twice without effect. Have also reinstalled IE.
IE still seem corrupt insofar it cannot e.g. "view source" so one
cannot see/check any html code with it...

Hi everyone, Can someone please help? I am getting "Error number: 0x8007000B"
all the time when i am trying do an windows update. I am using IE7 with SP2
    which I downloaded recently.

Is it still the BETA version of IE 7 ? If so, *please* read this before
    proceeding

0x8007000B - The format of the DLL or executable being loaded is invalid

I am also getting this error, and funny thing is I found out about the error
thru a video editing program that uses .net framework <- which I also updated
recently. #HRESULT:0x8007000b. I also had updates that were downloaded and
    will not install. HELP plse

See if this helps to resolve the error:

    Windows Update error 8007000b
    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...904121033.mspx

This took awhile to figure out but finally I have it working. I had
disabled my firewall and tried all else here with no sucess. Then I thought
about my router. I have Netgear 8 port prosafe hardware router firewall. I
unplugged from it and plugged directly into my cable modem. Not to my
surprise windows update works again. Will have to check out netgear to see
what security setting is blocking my windows update.

Thanks for posting this. When you figure out what setting needs to
be either changed or reset to, please post it so that others with the
same hardware can learn what they must do in order get updates from the
    WU/MU Update sites.

I have just purchased a new computer along with Windows XP Home Edition and I
am having some troubles downloading updates and updating my Windows Media
    Player.
    My error number is 0x8007000B.
Can anyone help me to resolve this problem.
    Thank you for any help.

    Try here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939399

Does that command work in XP ? The KB article states it's for Vista
    based systems.

0x8007000B COR_E_BADIMAGEFORMAT The format of the DLL or executable
    being loaded is invalid

If the workaround in the MSKB article does not resolve the issue, then
please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log that is
located in the WINDOWS directory [folder].

See if this resolves the issue:

    Windows Update error 8007000b
    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...904121033.mspx

I got the same error, was a hardware firewall issue for me as well (nvidia
active armor firewall - built into the mobo.) Turned it off and all is well.

We use a Fortinet firewall. It was blocking the update at the firewall. We
needed to create an exempt rule for the Windows Update mirror, which we found
in our Antivirus log by IP address. Put the IP address in the Web exempt list
and you're good to go. I'd love to know what aspect of the update service is
getting blocked, but I haven't found that yet. I will post when i find it.

I have a quick question, I contacted support and after few unsuccessfull
steps was told to manually download windowsupdate agent3 from this site
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

but I can not open this site, anything to do with windows update page, I
    can't open it.

This is not a link to a web page/site. It's a direct download link.

You should get a dialog box asking you "do you want to run or save this file"
You need to save the file to a location that you can easily find.

When I try to update Windows I get this error message. Is there a solution
for this problem? I also have a problem with trying to update Windows
    Defender.

I found this error on a computer I was working on. The solution for me was
to check the tcp/ip protocol of the network adapter. There was an erroneous
IP address listed for DNS servers. I set it to auto ip for the dns, then all
    was working properly.

    RE: error number: 0x8007000b

This error is most likely caused by one of the following conditions:

    1. Some third party programs affect the Windows Update service.
    2. DNS was improperly configured.
    3. The Windows Update Temporary folder is corrupted.

Let us refer to following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are
running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web
accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet
connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I
recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing the
Windows Update site later. Please be sure to enable them again after
    completing the update process.

Step 1: Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically
    =====================================================
    1. Click "Start", click "Run", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotations) and
    press "Enter".
    2. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
    3. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties".
    4. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address
    automatically".
    5. Click "OK".

Step 2: Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder
    ====================================
    1. Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press
Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window to stop the
    Automatic Updates service.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. However, if it
failed, please let me know before performing any further steps and include
any error messages you may have received when it failed.

    2. Click Start, click Run, and type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and
    press Enter.
    3. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
    4. Right-click on the folder, select Rename and type "SDold" (without the
    quotes) to rename this folder.
    5. Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press
    Enter.

Type the command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened
window to restart the Automatic Updates service.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was
successfully started. However, if it failed, please let me know before
performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have
    received when it failed.

    RE: Error number: 0x8007000B

I found a solution that worked for me on another forum. It's a browser
hijack preventing windows update from running.

"In part, these were the directions that fixed my problem. Done in SAFE MODE

    Modify Registry Entries:
    1. This procedure requires to modify registry entries. You must backup your
    registry. How to BackUp Registry
    2. Go to Start>Run>Regedit
    3. Navigate to the following entries and remove the value if present:

    *
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NameServer= (leave blank)
    *
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NameServer=
    (leave blank)

    Modify TCP-IP Settings:
    4. Go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections and double-click to open.
    5. Right-click then click on Properties
    6. Go to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)
    7. Click on Obtain DNS server address automatically if there was an assigned
    unknown DNS

He also suggested running Adaware 2007 and ewido antivirus. I use Adaware
and ewido is compatable with AVG antivirus which I also have. Adaware
wouldn't run in SAFEmode - aborted with a goofball error. I couldn't get the
ewido online scan to work, so I ran AVG. It didn't come up with anything.

ANYHOW after I did the reg hacks and the TCP-IP updates, Windows Update
works as always. I was able to upload Defender's updates and now he is happy
    and all is well."

I had the same error, after trying everything I came to the conclusion that I
had a browser Hijacker. Post a HijackThis log along with your error and
problem discription on a tech help forum.

I had the 0x8007000B error while first updating a fresh install of XP.
Various fixes on forums were not successful. My fix was to turn-off the XP
firewall, and then run the windows update. It first did the genuine
validation download, and subsequently ALL the remaining updates...

I have the same problem but uses XPPro.
I have tried to delete the SoftDistribution
    and to use

    regsvr32 /u wuapi.dll /s
    regsvr32 /u wups.dll /s
    regsvr32 /u wuaueng.dll /s

The LAN & Laptop have data flow problems, perhaps due to interference,
or perhaps due to a faulty or misconfigured wireless router. It's also
possible that the wireless interface in the laptop is causing the problem.
