    Error message: 0x8024D007

When using Microsoft Update (MU) I always get this message. MU is able to
scan for updates, download and register, but just before finishing, this
error message appears and the installation is cancelled. SP2 is already
installed on my computer. What does this error mean and what can I do to
    solve the problem? Thnx

Thanks, but I cannot rename the folder 'softwareDistribution'. Don't know why.
In the Windowsupdate.log I can see the update-process is cancelled at the
    following steps:
    " ...
    Setup Registering binary: C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe /s
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll"
Setup FATAL: Self registration of C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll failed,
    error = 0x8024D007
Setup Completed registration operations for section wuapi: status 0x8024d007
Setup WARNING: Setup failed while processing registry operations, error =
    0x8024D007. Rolling back changes.
    ...."
Renaming the file wuapi.dll to (for example) wuapiOLD.dll also doesn't help,
so I don't know what to do next...Does anybody?

    Hi all,

i've exactly the same behavoir as Sander. I found a article in Microsoft's
KB. The article said, that this error comes up, if you try to register a DLL
    with an non-administrative account.

But this is not the case. I logged in with an administrative account (and as
    Administrator himself). Same thing...

In addition i tried to register the wuapi.dll with regsvr32. Got error
    0x80070005

    Regards
    Sepp

Ok, i did some more investigation here and found the thread from 11/7/2005.

    azer points to http://www.castlecops.com/posts106642-0.html

And this is the solution. If you have this special problem (Problem to
register the wuapi.dll) go directly to Step 4 (Changing permission of
    registry keys).

After changing the permissions, windowsupdate worked for me.
