    [Error number: 0x8024D007]

Hi, I keep getting this error [Error number: 0x8024D007]
after I click on the install button from the windows update site?

Any idea what that means and how to fix it?

Additional the tool you need to validate your computer is located:
    http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu....aspx?ln=en-us

MBSA download to local workstation and run :-)

Thanks for the response. In my case I do not have a handy backup, so I'm
hopeful that there actually is a fix. Surely, if it generates such a specific
error code, someone knows what it relates to and has thought through what
    needs to be corrected.

    Re: [Error number: 0x8024D007]

I could not find any solution. So I restored a recent HD backub (Ghost).

I could then connect to Windows Update and retrieve whatever was present.

The problem seems to have been due to the new (V6) version of Windows Update
software; that version apparently has been withdrawn, since I connect with
version V5 and the new version (V6) did not get installed when I did =
    which would have been catastrophic.

    Re: [Error number: 0x8024D007]

I guess Microsoft will have to find a fix.
If only the published a list of the files that were installed
it should be possible to delete them. and then
    run a repair/update operation.

Your only choice may be to reinstall Windows.

    Error number: 0x8024D007

This error is in part a failure of the machine to validate that it is a
genuine product from microsoft. You can download the executable onto your
local desktop and run it manually. You will copy the key as instructed into
the STEP TWO box provided on the web. Then try running update again. Note:
This errror can occur on Windows 2000 machines as well as XP machines that
have the latest service packs applied (SP2 for XP and SP4 for Windows 2000.)
Failure of this update to proceed can knock your CPU for six! The result can
be crashes that have no other error in errro logs other than windows update
failing. Rebuild of your computer is not necessary and changing registry
entries for downloads/updates should not be needed. Someone should tell
microsoft that some of us engineers out in the big bad world are taking 30 to
an hour to sort this problem created by their new updated product!

I get this after Windows Update has supposedly downloaded all services and is
registering them at about 80%. I have read all existing posts on the relevant
threads, but none of their suggested fixes work for me. Below is the info

Well, I FINALLY figured out how to fix this. Deleting the WU*.* files won't
work all the time because WinXP will just replace them with the cached
    copies.

First step is to clear the WindowsUpdate.log. Open it in Notepad, hit
Ctrl-A and then hit Delete. Click the X at the top-right of the window to
close it, and click save. If it says something about not being able to
create the file, click OK, then Save, then Yes to overwrite. Load up Windows
Update until you get the error again, and close IE again. Then check your
WIndowsUpdate.loc again, and look for any line that has "Fatal" in it. You
should see one that says it failed to update a certian (or a few) DLL files.

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > "cmd" ) and navigate to your
windows/system32 folder. Since WindowsUpdate can't seem to unregister the
files before updating them, we're going to do that now.

type "regsvr23.exe /u " and enter the name of the first DLL that failed in
the log. Then copy over the one from
"WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\WebUpdate." Then go back to your cmd window,
hit the up key once, and use the arrow keys to navigate back to the /u and
remove it. Then hit enter to re-register the file.

If you still get errors, make sure the files listed in the log change. Each
time it comes up with an error (assuming you followed these directions
correctly), the file causing the error should be different. Eventually,
every file will be the correct version, and WindowsUpdate will work again.

    RE: [Error number: 0x8024D007]

I did a new (re-)search of the Self register error of wuapi.dll, I found this
tip from the Myrrdin user 16-12-2005 in reply to a thread started by "Sander
    Klaver":

    azer points to
And this is the solution. If you have this special problem (Problem to
register the wuapi.dll) go directly to Step 4 (Changing permission of
    registry keys).

And hurraa >>> After changing the permissions for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT,
    windowsupdate worked for me <<<

    Re: error number 0x8024D007

First, open the Services console by going to Start > Run > type in

    services.msc

    Click OK or press Enter
Check to ensure that Automatic Updates is set to Automatic for
'Startup type' by double clicking on it

Check to ensure that Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)is
*NOT* set to Disabled for ' Startup type ' by double clicking on it
It *can* be set to Manual and updates will install successfully

IF BITS is set to Disabled, first test to see if it functions
Click the Start button under ' Service status '
IF BITS can not start up, then register these .dll files by going to
Start > Run > type in [or copy & paste] these lines EXACTLY as posted,
clicking OK or pressing Enter after *each one* -

    regsvr32 qmgr.dll
    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

If the above is not the issue, see if this resolves it :

Go to Internet Options in the Control Panel.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security heading.
UNcheck the box next to " Check for server certificate revocation
    [requires restart] ".
Also, put a check in the box next to " Do not save encrypted pages to
disk ". Click Apply, OK, restart the system and revisit Windows Update
to see if the issue is resolved.

0x8024D007 = Windows Update Agent could not be updated because
    regsvr32.exe returned an error.

Windows version? Are you logged in as Administrator?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
    (if any)?

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
    posting to this newsgroup.

    Did you just reinstall WinXP?

How to obtain the latest version of the Windows Update Agent to help manage
    updates on a computer
[Tip: Use the Download Center link to install WUAgent manually]
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104

I am out of answers. Sorry I couldn't help
I'd recommend resubmitting your post here:

    Help and Support
    http://support.microsoft.com/common/...h=1&gprid=9860

    OR

I'd recommend calling 1-866-pcsafety if you are in the U.S. or Canada.
Elsewhere, call your local Microsoft subsidiary, or the number for paid
support in your locale--and ask for the free help with virus or
security-patch related issues. This help extends to spyware removal as well.

Other than that, I'm about out of ideas, so good luck with it.

Maybe someone else can conjure up something else to try.

I'm using Win XP SP3, and I have not reinstalled XP.

I've tried dowloading and installing WUAgent, but the error persists
