Error number: 0x80248008

Howdy,

I am getting this error message when I try to update Windows XP Pro. Any
help on this would be great.

0x80248008 => MISSINGDATA => The data store is in an invalid state because
data that should be present is missing.

Are you using WSUS? (Is this a machine at work?)

I found this a start.
I still continued to get the error message after activating auto updates.
The problem was that i was installing from an original XP Pro install CD.
I needed to also install the Windows Genuine Advantage plugin.
Once that was installed Windows Update managed to complete it's checks.

I got this problem too.

The reason was that there was an old WSUS Server configured in my registry.

- Start -> Run -> regedit
- Go to this position
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\

- I deleted the address in WUServer and WUStatusServer key
- I rebooted the server and then it was working!
