    KB911562 installation fails - Error Code 0x8007F0DA

Using Windows 2000 Professional. I confirmed that I have MDAC ver 2.8.1022.0
so I downloaded the file MDAC28-KB911562-x86-ENU.exe after original
installation failed. When running that, it states that "Product Version
Check: Failed, click here for details." Details state: "Update could not
identify the installed product version. The installation may be damaged."
Finally I get an error message in a window titled "KB911562 Setup Error" that
states, "KB911562 installation did not complete". What should I try next?
    Thank you.

    Brad,

Did you use the Component Checker tool to confirm the correct version ?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301202

There's a link to it on this page :

I just ran that program and the results are "MDAC 2.8 RTM".

Also, I forgot to mention that I do have Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
    installed.

    Any more thoughts?

    Thanks

I got it, I found that I needed the windows 2000 service pack 4 with
microsoft data access components 2.8 SERVICE PACK 1 INSTALLED
The service pack 1 was the kicker.
Here is the link to the download:

Well now I tried to update my laptop and no luck...it has 2.5 sp3 and nothing
    is working...this blows big chunks.

Same here, although I tried to install the security update that is
especially got the MDAC 2.5 sp3 version... So what I did is: I upgraded to
MDAC 2.8 SP1 first. Then the MDAC security update installed correctly. It is
    a workaround though ;-)

Strangely, the MDAC version checker now says I am running a Windows XP SP2
system instead of a Windows 2000 SP4 system!!

Would it have to do with:
"Microsoft strongly recommends that all customers who currently use a
version of Windows that does not have Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7
Service Pack 1 or higher upgrade immediately to Microsoft Data Access
Components 2.8 Service Pack 1 or another supported version. The only
EXCEPTION to this notice is customers who currently use Windows 2000 Service
Pack 4 running Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 Service Pack 3. See
Knowledge Base Article 915387 for more information."?

Does this mean you are "not strongly recommended to do this" on a W2000 SP4
system, or that you "should not do this" on a W2000 SP4 system?"

I saw a solution suggested in another thread to upgrade the 2.8 RTM to 2.81
(2.8 SP 1). I did that, then ran Windows Update again and voila, the
    installation succeeded. Hope this helps.

Dowload update MDAC 2.8 SP1 from
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
    Install it.
    Run Windows update again.

Re: KB911562 installation fails - Error Code 0x8007F0DA

    Hi Folks,

I have been reading this thread with much interest as I am having the
same problem wih WINDOWS 2000 Server SP4 that has MDAC 2.8 SP 1
    installed.

I have tried alsmost everything to get this KB911562 MDAC patch
instlled. I get the same error as the fellow (Brad) who started this
thread (patch cannot identify correct MDAC version).

I have used MS Component Checker and found that MDAC 2.8 SP 1 for
WINDOWS XP!! is apparently installed on this box. This is obviously
wrong. I have even re-installed the MDAC 2.8 SP1 AGAIN and tried to
patch with KB911562 and still get the same error. Does anyone else have
this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been working with a MS tech via e-mail for a week, no progress at all,
so far he has had me duplicate most of the fixes that have been sugested here.
If I get anywhere, I'll let you know.
    My case number is SRZ060419000809
We are back to where we started as of today.
