There are quite a few postings on this error: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...xp=&sloc=en-us or http://tinyurl.com/3r34u Also another user by the name of Karim solved this problem as follows:- I was received this error, and I tried all the MS KB articles, and read through every single thread in this newsgroup related to Error: 0x8024402C and was unable to fix it. If you read very carefully in Windows Update, besides the 8024402C error, there is an error that says "You didn't accept the EULA". Go back and check! I was unsure what was going on, but I never saw an EULA (End User License Agreement) Dialogue Pop-up. Until I made the 3 changes below. This works for sure: 1) BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Agent); Automatic Updates and Cryptographic Services *MUST* be enabled (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services). **You can turn them OFF and disable later if you so desire. 2) Go to "Tools, Interent Options, Privacy, Pop-Up Blocker, Settings...and made sure the following are added: *.microsoft.com *.download.microsoft.com *.windowsupdate.com *.windowsupdate.microsoft.com v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com windowsupdate.microsoft.com 2) Go to TCP-IP Properties, Advanced, DNS, and made sure all defaults are chosen. (Append Primary & Suffix radio button is checked, everything else is blank) This assumes you are receiving a DHCP address. Unplug & Plug your Network cable back out & in, so it gets a new DNS suffix with the DHCP address. No more Windows Update Errors! Please post if this worked for you. cheers -karim" Hope something is of assistance for you. Hi there, use this article to check Bits http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...icleid=9&ln=en Check the Cryptographic service Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties. Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start. Don't worry about the 3rd - you're not on a network. And then i did Register qmgr.dll Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type regsvr32 qmgr.dll. Click OK. Register qmgrproxy.dll Click Start. Choose Run. At this point, I don't know unfortunately. Perhaps someone else with a bit more knowledge than me will pick up the thread and assist. Hi Taurian, my problem is solved...i did this i got this help thorugh http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...xp=&sloc=en-us (O)enone Here's what works for our company: 1. Click on Start, and then click Run. 2. Type cmd in the Open box to get a DOS prompt. 3. Type "net stop wuauserv" without the quotes at the command prompt, and press Enter. 4. Delete (or put in recycle bin) the contents of C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution (but not the SoftwareDistribution folder) 5. Type net start wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter. 6. Now try Windows Update again. This is some kind of Microsoft foul-up that they really need to fix and quite blaming proxy connections. Thanks Taurian Romy "Taurarian" wrote: > Hi there, use this article to check Bits > http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...icleid=9&ln=en > > Check the Cryptographic service > Click Start. > Choose Run. > In the Run box, type services.msc. > Click OK. > Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties. > Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start. > > > Don't worry about the 3rd - you're not on a network. > > Did you check out any of the other postings on this error: > http://tinyurl.com/3r34u > > > > > "fransalian_romy" <fransalianromy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:16D27AA7-5681-4759-99D4-8569401B7C72@microsoft.com... > > Hi Taurian > > I tried the 2nd change of Karim below, that is adding the sites in > > pop up blocker settings. | Re: Error Code: 8024402C ,i cannot update my Windows XP Proffessio
Thanks guys !!! I followed your discussion and fought myself with the problem for 6 days, finally I aplied the final "recipe" by ''fransalian_romy'' and it worked for me as well. In my case the strange thing was that I was able to download the optional udates and even the driver updates but not the Critical Udates !?... My hardware is: IBM ThinkPad System Model: 26482TG; Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU - M 1000MHz ; RAM 384MB; HDD 36.46 GB; OS: WinXP Pro + SP2 And something else, by mistake I only sent to the Recycle bin the "DataStore" folder and ReportingEvents.log from C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution but The Windows Update was successful afterwards any way . So once again Thanks a lot !!!!! Hold on guys...i followed that procedure and selected and installed 3 critical updates out of 16 needed...overjoyed i selected the remaining and tried to update but i was back in same dustbin...then i again followed the same procedure and back to normal..seems like we have to follow every time we do it,cos the C\Windows\Software Distribution always collects those files when we last went for updates. So every new update we may have to follow that procedure...Microsoft i need a permanent solution!! | Re: Error Code: 8024402C ,i cannot update my Windows XP Proffessio
Hi Romy, It's been almost two weeks since I succeeded in installing the critical updates, today got one more critical update with no problem at all. The previous time I got all 16 of them. At that time I played a bit with BITS service - started and stopped it couple of times - and by the way when I tried to delete the content of C:\WINNT\SoftwareDistribution I got message that some of the files and folders could not be deleted because the BITS service was running, I did not stopped it so as I mentioned before I only deleted "DataStore" folder and ReportingEvents.log and it was enough for the Windows update to start functioning properly ( so far ). So if You still are willing to fight with it try to play with the BITS service some more. I will keep follow the problem and the disscusion as well. Post your findings. Good luck!
