    Error number: 0x8DDD0002

I got this error and this msg:

To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged
on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators
group. If your computer is connected to a network,
network policy settings might also prevent you from
    completing this procedure.

Can anyone help me? Thanks, Fed Up!

    "Even" suggestion:

This error occurs when consistency of contents has not come off in the
    DataStore folder.

    Solution
Caution:As for procedure below operation of file deletion is included. When
the erroneous file is deleted, it seems that re-installation of the operating
system becomes necessary, there is a possibility serious problem occurring.
Being not to be able to guarantee altogether concerning the problem which
    accompanies erroneous operation, please note.

go to Start, Run, "services.msc" inputs into the box, OK.
right it clicks the [ Automatic Updates ] service and Stop it.
*Alittle time is required for the stop of service.

go to Start, Run, "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution" inputs into the box, OK.
The DataStore folder is opened and deleted all contents of the DataStore
    folder.
    Closed Window.

go to Start, Run, "services.msc" inputs into the box, OK.
right it clicks the [ Automatic Updates ] service and Start it.

    Good Luck!!!

    Re: Error number: 0x8DDD0002

I had this problem. I tried accessing the updates as a user in the
administrators group and also as the administrator but every time I got the
0x8DDD0002 error. I tried checking the policy settings and firewall
settings but there was nothing obvious.

I eventually checed the permissions on C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution and
subfolders. These folder appeared to have been changed so that not even
administrators had ANY access rights. I modifed the folder and sub folders
to full access and I then got a 0x8DDD0018 error message. I set the
background Intelligent Transfer Service was set to Manual & Started. Then
set the Automatic Updates Service to Automatic and Started as the knowledge
base suggested. It didn't seem to help but restarting these services
eventually seemed to clear whatever was causing the problem.

    I hope this helps.
