Yes I am experiencing the same problem. Automatic Updates in the Control
Panel says Auto Updates are turned on, but I cannot download any. I also do
not see Automatic Updates listed in the services.msc file.

Hi

Please try the following:

Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try again.

Thanks a lot Torgeir, it worked! Which is a lot more than I can say for what
Microsoft Online Assisted Support told me to do.

Re: Yikes! Error message 80070424

Hi, I am having the same problem and tried the same suggestion but still I am
having problems. After executing these lines, I go back and checked if
automatic program is displayed and enabled at services.msc. I can see it but
with the disable status. Tried to enable the program but I get a message
that says that it cant change the status for the program is marked for
deletion. Therefore I can't continue and can't run the windows update
program.

Any suggestion to this matter?

Luis

Re: Yikes! Error message 80070424

Hi

See if this helps:

Start regedit.exe and locate the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

If you find a DeleteFlag value there, delete the DeleteFlag value.

Worked like a charm Torgeir! I have no idea what the commands were but I'm
happy with the results. Kudos to you.

Re: Yikes! Error message 80070424

I seem to have a problem with automatic updates resulting in this error. I
tried following the steps which Torgeir initially posted and rebooting, but
still got the same error. On looking for the key in regedit below, but there
is nothing listed at that location for wuauserv (although there was a key for
it in the higher directory ControlSet003).

Any further tips greatly appreaciated!
