    Corrupt Catalog CBS 0x800B0100

    Hello,

I have the same issue trying to install Vista SP1. I follow all the steps and here is the content of the CheckSUR.log:

    =================================
    Checking System Update Readiness.
    Version 6.0.6000.2
    2008-07-29 22:49:33 p.m.

    Checking Deployment Packages

    Checking Package Manifests and catalogs.
    (f) Corrupt Catalog CBS 0x800B0100 \servicing\packages\Package_1_for_KB929916~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.7.cat
    C:\Windows\servicing\packages\Package_1_for_KB929916~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.7.cat
    Size: 22185 bytes.

    Checking package watchlist.

    Checking component watchlist.

    Checking packages.
    Checking component registry

    Checking component store

Scanned 8369 components, 12675 component payload files
    Summary:
    Milliseconds: 871230
    Found 1 errors
CBS Corrupt Catalog Total Count: 1
Customer Experience report successfuly uploaded. Thank you for participating. For more information, see the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program on the Microsoft web site.

As you can see, it found a corrupt file. I tried to reinstall the patch KB929916 but I get the message "This update doesn't apply to your system."

Is there a way to solve this issue?.

    Thanks in advance

So, that error maps to no signature in the file. Looks like it might be
staged improperly. So, you can use PKGMGR on that package and remove it
    manually.

Details on that are located here:

940410 How to use Package Manager to uninstall a package in Windows Vista

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;940410

Also, I would check your updates list and see if that update is there. It
might be as easy as removing and reinstalling that update.

Please note you are posting from a news server which has a retention
policy greater than most so it would help if you would provide at least
some context, if not a link to where you are seeing this...

    http://groups.google.com/group/micro...23d56d0d21a0a9

(Google Groups Advanced search for Message-ID
    from above References header)

[Evidently this is a reply to MowGreen's suggestion to another poster
made 07 Apr 2008 in a thread originally titled: 800B0100 error]

    > I follow all the steps and here is the content of the CheckSUR.log:

So, how do you know which came first: the error or the service pack?
If the error came first perhaps you should uninstall the service pack
before trying to resolve the error?

BTW you may find more knowledgeable help with Vista specific
symptoms in a Vista specific newsgroup. Cross-posting to one
    for convenience.
