Error Code 646 on MS Office Updates Only

I have now accumulated 5 updates which repeatedly fail. They are:

    KB978382 - Excel 2007
    KB976321 - Office 2007
    KB978380 - Office 2007
    KB980729 - OneNote 2007
    KB981715 - Office 2007

OS (Windows 7) updates seem to install correctly, as do updates for any
    drivers.

Have tried both auto and manual update installs .... have tried one at a
time and all at once ... Nothing seems to correct the situation. Any ideas?

Insert your Office CD into your computer while the Updates are trying to install. If
you have read some of the posts here ,then you would have found the above fix for
    the 646 issue

Close all Office applications prior to the next install attempt.

Insert your Office 2007 into the appropriate drive-bay prior to the
    next install attempt.

Temporarily disable any third-party real-time system protections (e.g.,
anti-virus; anti-spyware; firewall) prior to the next install attempt.

Reboot after an install attempt, whether prompted to do so or not.

Tip: Insert your Office CD into the appropriate drive bay before the next
    installation attempt.

Tip: If no joy, see if you can download the "fullfile" version of the
    update(s)
    and install it/them manually; e.g.,
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-444e4abea730

    Or you can...

Re: Error Code 646 on MS Office Updates Only

Everyone only offers to insert your Office 2007 CD into the drive. In August
2009 when the computer shop built my computer, Microsoft was not providing
the CDs any longer. They were required to purchase Office 2007, obtain the
key code, and then download directly from Microsoft website. I don't have
physical CD's for my Office 2007 Professional version because Microsoft
stopped providing them. Only direct download from website.

My fiancee is computer IT person. she said when she gets those errors she
ignores them and eventuall the Windows Update program will work properly and
the icon in the system tray will go away.

No, the shop chose not to burn a CD.

[Hope you fiancee can find a job & keep it.]

Go to the Control Panel, click on User Accounts and turn it off. You'll have
to restart your computer, then install the updates. Once installed, go back
to the Control Panel and turn the User Accounts back on. It has worked for me
every time an Office 2007 update has failed.

INSTALLATION SUCCEEDED!! Thank you! I turned off the user account , and also inserted the CD for office. First, i inserted CD then tried to install but failed. With the user account "Off", then it worked.
