.NET Framework security updates fail (KB974417)

I'm running WinXP/pro SP3. I *always* use MS update.

The following four updates always fail (and have been failing for some time):
KB974417 -- Error Code: 0x645 (since 16-Oct-2009)
KB953297 -- Error Code: 0x64C (since 16-Oct-2009)
KB971090 -- Error Code: 0x663 (since 29-Jul-2009)
KB963707 -- Error Code: 0x80070663 (since 18-Jul-2009)

I've tried all the standard repair procedures with no success. I don't
(knowingly) use or muck around with the .net framework. I've been running
MSUpdate for years -- these updates just don't work. Other updates work fine.

The machine runs fine. Any ideas? I'd like to avoid spending days in
configuration hell if possible.

KB974417, KB953297, and KB971090 are Security updates.

Install Belarc Advisor by running the setup program "Advisor.exe" (about a
2-Meg download), then you can scroll down to see these failed updates. They
will most likely have a red 'X' by them, with relevant links to get
information. Hope that helps get you started on more fruitful
troubleshooting. :)
