Error Code 66A KB953297

Cannot update .NET Framework. Tried several times and was unsuccesful. Read
the posts and can't find solutions. Only one that looks promising was a free
phone helpline in America. I am in UK and would really appreciate if someone
could guide me on how to solve the problem. Just wonder how bad it is going
to affect my computer if this is not updated.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2;
Win7 RC; Win7 RTM) when posting in a forum or newsgroup.

1. Before doing anything else, write down the .NET Framework versions which
are already installed:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied

2. Now see Resolution Method 2 in...

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0,
or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows
Installer error code "1603" (ignore the title, if need be)

After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install all .NET Framework
versions manually using the download links on the page then run Windows
Update manually to install security updates for same.

I too am having trouble with netframe. I had a virus infect my PC. I did a
recovery add had to re-install all the updates. In the meantime I purchased
"Quicken". It contained an update to netframe (2.0). It failed on
installation. I went to MSN update and tried to download and install ver 3.5.
It failed.
I went to control panel and removed versions of net frame back to 1.1. Then
tried updating again. No luck.
This seems to be a very basic problem, but I cannot find a resolution
anywhere.

PS. I am in the USA

Accept the Agreement. Then click the Continue button.
Fill in the form. Be sure to include the update KB number in the
'Problem title'
ex: " Cannot install KB953297 "
Provide the edition of Windows and what Service Pack level it's now on,
the .NET Framework(s) installed, and the KB number of the update that
will not install, KB953297.
Then click the Continue button again.

This took care of the 1603 error code for me!
I have 2 rigs with XP Home SP3, and only had this problem with one of them.
Did the steps in the (http://suport.microsoft.com/kb/923100) link, and
clicked on the this page tab.
Fallowed the steps, and problem solved.

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice, especially to 'MowGreen'. Send
email to Microsoft through the link you provided. Waiting for answers from
them and hopefully will help solve the problem. Means alot for a beginner
computer user, THANK YOU :-)

You're mowst welcome and THANK YOU for submitting the support request to
MS. If more Users would do that then MS would be made aware of the never
ending, ongoing issue of updating .NET Frameworks
Including such an update with the amount of other updates issued in
October was not a wise decision. ALL .NET Framework updates should be
installed *exclusively*, not along with other updates.
It appears that MS has finally gotten that clue:

Let's hope that they keep subsequent .NET updates an "exclusive install"

MyLee,I called the Microsoft toll free number 1-866-727-2338.They are very
friendly,and will walk you through the update.The update on my computer took
aprox.2 hours ,from start to finish.The Microsoft person was very
friendly.They will update your computer with remote assistance.You will have
to allow them to do this .Then just sit back and watch ,as they fix your
update.The Microsoft person will stay on the phone with you too!While they
are updating your windows security.I hope this helps.
