This is what I got from Microsoft =================== The issue can be caused by a corrupted windows update folder. At this time, let us try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Click "Start", "Run", type: "notepad C:\remove.bat" (without quotations) and press Enter. Choose "Yes" when you are prompted. 2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window. net stop wuauserv net stop CryptSvc ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.old ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sold.old net start CryptSvc net start wuauserv 3. After you paste the above commands, please close the "Notepad" window. Choose "Yes" when you are prompted to save the file. 4. Click "Start", "Run", type: "C:\remove.bat" (without quotations) and press "Enter" to run the commands that were pasted. After we have finished the above steps, please restart the computer and try to update Windows again. =================== |

Hey Wilkins, i triedyour fix and restarted and tried installing updates but it failed again.I have tried about 2o times and my review history keeps showing error 0x643.I also tried a search for flash.ocx and swflash.ocx and found two instances of flash.ocx and removed them but this also didn't do the trick. One thing that did happen though is that yellow update shield is gone advising me updates are now available to install.I tried manuel installation as i said and this failed as i said.Got any other remedies? |

On the MS Update website, there is a link somewhere (sorry, I forget where) that says something about contacting Microsoft. I think the link is under your update history (failed) somewhere. Microsoft is very responsive. Over the years I've had 2-3 issues with updates and they have always e-mailed me and resolved the issue, even if it took a few days/trys. |

There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999). | RE: .net framework security updates for 1.1, 2.0 & 3.5 for XP
Same happening to me ... the self-help path says (basically) there's a problem with the .NET installation so uninstall _ALL_ .NET stuff then reinstall it _ALL_. Then says it can be done manually using the Control Panel Add/Remove programs or via a not-guaranteed-to-work cleanup tool. Seems like a long-winded solution to a problem that shouldn't exist? (I'm not a developer and .NET is a mystery to me - I have no direct need to use it, but somehow I must???) |

| RE: .net framework security updates for 1.1, 2.0 & 3.5 for XP
Here is the reason for the "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)" Not installing. I found when I checked the windows install cleanup utility, that the .NET Framwork 1.1 was no longer installed. I checked the add or remove programs, clicked on it and tried to uninstall it only to be told that the program was not presently installed. I can only assume that either NET 2 over wrote it or somehow the program became lost. You should reinstall from MS Downloads 1.1 NET redistribution pk dotnetfx.exe 23,698kb Then you will have to download Service Pack 1 from MS Downloads NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe and install it. ""NOTE"" The installation will say you have sp1 already installed do you wish to continue" Say yes or the other Fixes will not install. Next install 1.1 sp1 hot fix from MS Downloads NDP1.1sp1-KB928366-X86.exe Finally you can install the Oct 09 fixes. either from the MS Update site or from MS Downloads NDP1.1sp1-KB953297-X86.exe |

I spent the better part of yesterday at the office working on this problem. to no avail. I appreciate all the other helpful posts, but your advice did the trick! I just fixed the same problem on my home desktop following your method. I had never used the windows install cleanup utility before either. I think it might help solve some problems I've had with updates to MSO 2003. i am having the same problem cannot download net frame 1.1 security pack what can i do to resolve this |

The thread starting with Pillsbury provides a solution that worked great for me. I also had the Windows Cleanup Tool from the last time I had this problem. It clearly appears that are certain computers .net framework 1.1 gets wiped out with future downloads. I have not saved on the one computer I have this problem with in a folder all of the files recommended |

Worked perfect for me also. I likewise have had this happen before. I have saved all your files in a folder on the computer with the problem. I have 7 computers and this problem only occurs on one of them each time. THANKS!!! |

| Re: .net framework security updates for 1.1, 2.0 & 3.5 for XP
If you use Firefox 3.5, don't touch that one for .NET 3.5. Microsoft just royally insulted all Firefox users and tried to ruin Fx. Mozilla put them in their place by sending a block signal to all computers using Fx 3.5. I hope Mozilla sues the pants off Microsoft for what they tried to do to Firefox. The update for .NET 3.5 installs a plug-in SILENTLY (yet again...Microsoft pulled this same crap earlier this year with Fx silent install that hurt Fx and got criticized for it and now they do it again and even worse this time). The plug-in is for Windows Presentation Foundation which is a part of ..NET 3 and 3.5. That plug-in in Microsoft installs silently (or did until Mozilla sent a block signal Friday to all Firefox installations) makes Fx worthless as a browser because it makes it totally open to drive by malware installations. Microsoft has no business rewriting Firefox code silently without the express permission of the user (and for that matter they should also ask Mozilla for permission to rewrite code for a rival browser). Geeez..... If you don't have reason to need .NET 2, 3 and 3.5 just get rid of them. They cause nothing but problems and practically no applications that most people use depend on any of them except maybe .NET 1.1 which is the smallest and best behaved of them. |
