| Temporary Folder(s) not deleted after Hotfix
I'm using Windows XP Home (SP2)... Windows Update installed Hotfix KB954550-v5 and suggested my computer reboot. After rebooting and checking C:/ drive the hotfix's temporary directory c:/1ec5d64c33d393f6cb3c0897155f77 containing all of the hotfix's files were still there. My computer would not allow manual deletion. I thought perhaps the hotfix had not installed properly, so I downloaded it from »support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBH···ln=en-us and installed it manually. The same thing happened but produced the folder C:/acd6b4cfb66fe7310f6f2c9db4 containing identical files as the first. These will also not allow manual deletion. I now have two temp/install folders on my hard drive comprising 12.1 Meg of data which will not allow manual deletion, all caused by Microsoft's Hotfix KB954550-v5. Please advise how I may delete these directories and remedy this situation. |

Restart the computer into Safe Mode to then clean the Temporary files OR, you could use something like CCleaner (free) that will do all the above for you in one shot. Try to remove it with Revo Uninstaller, then run CCleaner's registry cleaner. <http://www.revouninstaller.com/> Revo Try in Tools -> Optimization -. Junk Files Cleaner – Scan - Delete <http://www.ccleaner.com> Note, uncheck Yahoos Toolbar Download the basic version via <http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx> The basic version does not contain the disgusted Toolbar All of the above in Safe mode -=- "Keifer" wrote: > I'm using Windows XP Home (SP2)... > > Windows Update installed Hotfix KB954550-v5 and suggested my computer > reboot. I don't have a "Security" tab under "Properties" Mae, for either the folders or the files. There is no Administrator account showing when you boot to Safe Mode ? To be clear here, there should be a *separate* Administrator account you can log onto showing when the system boots to Safe Mode. Not to be confused with *your* User Account which has Admin privileges. DONE!!! That was the problem MowGreen. I booted to "Safe" mode and logged in as Administrator, then followed Mae's page of instructions which done the trick. Both directories and all files gone! God bless you guys... I don't know what made me try this, but it worked and it's simpler than the other proposals. Rather than trying to delete the folders, delete the files in them first. They will delete. (I'm logged in as Admin). ..... then... the folders can be deleted. Weird but so.
