Any chance there's a beta build of SP2 still installed?

How to troubleshoot Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 service pack
    installation issues:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows Vista, but only for Service Pack 2 (SP2). This support for Windows
Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) is valid until November 26, 2009. Availability of
chat or e-mail support differs depending on your geographic location. Go to
    http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...4&gprid=582034 &
    select appropriate category (e.g., Installation).

    Installation Tips:

    • Your computer will restart several times during the installation process:
Make certain you've saved your work and closed all open applications before
    beginning the install.

    • Disable (1) your anti-virus application, (2) any real-time system
protections afforded by any anti-spyware applications (except Defender), &
    (3) your third-party firewall (if any) and then (4) enable the Windows
Firewall _before installing or uninstalling_ Vista SP2.

    • The installation process can take an hour or more: If you're installing
SP2 on a portable computer, make sure that you plug-in the power cord and
have the battery inserted into its bay.

Any further clues in these logs -

    %windir%\windowsupdate.log (c:\windows\windows Update.log)

    %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log (tracks events) (c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log)

Only what Bear suggested otherwise I would have suggested an "SFC" if you
happen to have the original DVD etc.

Please do report back with the results and make sure you give them the
    contents of the log.

Delete c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log (a persistant copy is kept in
    cbs.persist.log)

    and run SFC /SCANNOW

    Then

    findstr /c:"verify" "%windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log"

If you get some text back, could you post that?

    Re: Vista SP2 error 0x800f081f

I looked at the log again...

Go into regedit and delete these keys (export the keys before you delete
    them though, just in case)

    x86_microsoft-windows-w..r-chinesesimplified_31bf3856ad364e35_7.0.6002.18005_none_4ea5f824b33a0498

    They're located under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\Components\
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\DerivedData\Components\

Then run SFC to scan for any errors...

If no errors then try installing SP2.

    Re: Vista SP2 error 0x800f081f

    Idea was nice....but
After I deleted error popup was 80070007, then another number,
then another number, then another number, then another number, because again
    some
"chinese stuff" missing. Then run into 0x80070490 then I give up.
Have no more time to fix what not suppose to be broken at all.
Vista is totally sick. Will go simple downgrade to XP because my laptop
has drivers for XP. I will be not impaired again.
Or will install OSx86, thats even more stable on my laptop.
    Google iDeneb and go Apple.

    Don't give up now...

    You're missing file NOISE.CHS

You are so close to beating this problem.

Copy the following text and save it as NOISE.CHS to C:\Windows\System

[Tae Song, you've been posting possibly dangerous advice in this newsgroup
and some Vista newsgroups recently. With all due respect, get a clue,
