    Windows XP SP3 and kb956572

    I am in the process of testing the updates on my test systems when I came
    across KB956572 not wanting to install on any of my windows xp systems. I
    have rebooted the systems and reinstalling both from wsus and manully with
    out any luck. I notice some other people having the same issues. Has anyone
    come across a solution to this problem? Here is the log file.

    Re: Windows XP SP3 and kb956572

    First, download and *save* KB956572 for XP SP2 or SP3 x86 [32bit]:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    Next, try a Clean boot of XP and see if the update installs now:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
    Restart afterwards.

    Re: Windows XP SP3 and kb956572

    I am sorry I did not make my self clear. I have to install this patch on a
    1000+ systems and this patch failed on all my test systems. There has to be
    a better solution. Does any one have a better solution or am I or some who
    works with me going to have to install this by sneaker net?

    Thanks.

    It's probably not going to be all uses of ntdll.dll, perhaps just one particular one. Would you have a way of stopping that in
    all your machines?
    E.g. do they all have the same device drivers and utility software installed?
    Would it install if you edicted a shut down once the update was downloaded?
    E.g. less third-party stuff might still be running then. But if the common factor
    is devices I suspect you might need to do the install in safe mode before such
    files get loaded.

    BTW I think you would be better served posting in a WSUS or SMS NG
    since people there would be more familiar with problems with automating
    updates. In fact, I think SMS isn't called that any more?...

    http://www.microsoft.com/smserver/default.mspx

    (Microsoft search for
    sms system center
    )

    <quote>
    The next release of Systems Management Server (SMS), entitled System
    Center Configuration Manager 2007, is now available for download.
    </quote>

    So, you could get a free trial. Report bugs, etc. ; )
    I can't tell if there are new newsgroups for the replacement of SMS.

    Good luck
