    Vista Error 8007002 -final word?

So is there a final word on this error for those of us who have repeated the
microsoft "suggested fix" of stopping the service and manually clearing it's
data in hopes that a new download may be succesful (that's a work around...
not a fix.... and a cludgy one in my book)... and continue to have failures?

    regedit anyone?

Having the same problem. Did all that was recommended and still the download
    failed.

Got the same error, cleared the same data... and now I'm here =/ This sucks.

Nice to know I'm not the only one.

same problem here. Glad to know I'm not alone.
Tried all the fixes I could through help and support pages - yeah,
definitely cluges, and they didn't work. Gave up when I reached "access
denied" while precisely following instructions, and decided to look here for
    help instead.

LOOK TO THE SOLUTION ERROR 80070002.....

I managed to install the update manually ! :D

    Go to C:/windows/softwaredistribution/download/install/

    RUN THE UPDATE AGAIN

I am having this problem as well for about 3 weeks now and got only one
single email from Bill with a copy of the text in the Vista help files. No
further reaction since. :-( I have tried some regedits as well but with no
success. I have forgotten from where I got the regidit advice but I think it
    was B.G. as well.
Btw. They (MS) told me to re-install my windows completely! arrgg...

Reinstalling Windows won't necessarily solve the problem - I tried that, but
the same SEVEN updates I can't install still refused to work.

RE: Vista Error 8007002 -final word?

I'm a bit "antsy" about deleting or renaming folders in my operating system,
and even more "antsy" about reloading my Vista OS, all to correct a problem
that was caused by Microsoft, i.e., this text at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910336 - CAUSE - This problem occurs when
some files in the update are missing, even though the update is downloaded
and extracted successfully, when referring to receipt of an 80070002 error
    code.

Surely there must be an easier method to "fix" this problem when an update
fails, maybe issuing the update with another name...

As you have already realized, I'm not "computer literate," but trying to
    learn.

RE: Vista Error 8007002 -final word?

I hit a couple of issues
    1. The install directory wasn't there - I suspect I messed it up while
trying to follow microsofts fixes. I tried the automatic update again, and
after it had failed the directory was there.
    2. Vista complained that the application was from an unknown source, but the
details button said it was microsoft. Disturbing...
    3. After restart, the UpdateUtil application is blocked - still not sure if
    I'm meant to unblock it.
    4. I still had the updates ready to install message, but they installed okay.

Any advice on the UpdateUtil application? Should I unblock it?

I tried the manual method as mentioned above and it worked fine. Too bad
Microsoft isn't 'up to speed' on this

this appears to work. go to

    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\download\Install (assuming your main
hard-drive is C:) and instal from there

    Download directly from here
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Then run Windows update. This worked for me.

I go to C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/download/ ----- and there is no
folder labeled "Install." How does one do this manual install?

Did you mean to download it to the desktop -- or do I need to save it in the
    Download folder in SoftwareDistribution?

I noticed the same thing. Maybe the package wasn't signed properly and
    that caused the whole problem.

Anyway, after a long hesitation I unblocked it. Everything seems to be
    fine now.

RE: Vista Error 8007002 -final word?

I saved it to my desktop, created a restore point, installed. A message
indicated the install was successful. I restarted and then ran Windows Update
and it indicated there were no updates for my computer. I also checked in my
C drive/Windows ... etc. after restarted and now that Install folder is there.

I had written to Windows Update Tech Support and finally got an answer from
them tonight. So if the fix you told about and which worked for me doesn't
for someone else out there I would be happy to post the instructions received
by tech support to this forum if it's needed.
