| Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition Update error 80070424
I keep getting the 'Windows could not search for new updates' error 80070424. I have spent a long time browsing the internet for a solution with no luck. Any help would be very much appreciated. |

I've already used that link to try and fix my problem with update but I went through it all again http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002/ and it's still refusing to work. I changed a setting in my user accounts to allow me to re-register several .dlls inclusing the one you listed below and still nothing, my firewall is disabled my virus checker removed.. still not working. Any more ideas please for a fix? "TaurArian" wrote: > incubation wrote: > :: I keep getting the 'Windows could not search for new updates' error > :: 80070424. My guess then would most likely be that you have a virus infection or something. Copied from PA Bear - "There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a hijackware infection. 1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx NB: Rename MRT.EXE to, e.g., SCANNER.EXE before running the tool! 2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm 3. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here.
