.NET 3.5 update fails first time every time

I'm putting this out here FWIW because so many people are having trouble
with this update.

I have installed it on five computers now, 3 XP Pro, 1 Vista Home, 1 Server
2008 (brand new installation). Every single time, it failed on the first
attempt and succeeded on the second.

It seems like something wrong here, but at least it seemed to fix itself.

Re: .NET 3.5 update fails first time every time

I have noticed that even though the installation
says it has completed and may ask you to restart
the PC, in fact there is background disk and
installation activity still taking place for about another
two minutes. In my case I have always waited for the CPU
to return to the idle state before rebooting.

Since I have not experienced your particular problem
this is the only advice I can give other then saying that
I did not use Windows Update but chose to download
the 3.5 SP1 file to the hard drive and then perform the
update.

Re: .NET 3.5 update fails first time every time

I should have mentioned that it succeeded after I restarted, following the
failed update. Restarting seems to be necessary.
