| can't update KB951847
I downloaded this from automatic update, but it will not install. Got error code 0x800706BE. I run xp media center 2002, Service Pack 3, and have mcafee firewall, antivirus software as well as windows defender. Can someone help me with the installation? Also, I have read some answers saying to clean the registry. How do you do that? Thanks so much anyone.... |

0x800706BE RPC_S_CALL_FAILED There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a hijackware infection. 1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx 2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be): http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm 3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here. Thank you for giving me some information. I have tried the first recommendation, and could not download it, so I went to the windows one care site, and downloaded the clean up tool which did find a lot of junk which it cleaned out. That is all I've done for now, and will work on this tomorrow. I am going to try again to install the windows update. I was surprised at how much junk was removed from my registry, etc. I am hoping that it will install, although I won't be surprised if it doesn't. I obviously need to do some work, and will seek professional help if I can't do it myself. Thanks for you time and help. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. You're welcome & thanks for your feedback. > ...I went to the windows one care > site, and downloaded the clean up tool which did find a lot of junk which > it > cleaned out. The link in #2 points to the Protection scan, not the Clean Up scan. But if the latter floated your boat, so be it. Cleve wrote: > I did go to windows update, and the update installed!!!!
