Problem Downloading Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 an

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family
    Update (KB951847) x86

I have a Windows XP Operating System.

See my Wndows Update History below:
-Windows XP Update for Windows XP (KB967715) successful Wed. 2-25-09 Auto
    Update
-Windows XP Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework
3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 Failed Sat. 2-14-09 Auto Update
-Windows XP Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework
3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 Sat. 2-14-09 Microsoft Update Failed

I understand others are having major problems with this update.
Note I have not tried to redownload the MS .NET framework again since the
KB967715 was successful. I am wondering if I should just hide MS .NET
    Framework or try again.

I have the following in my Add Remove:
    Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix ((KB928366)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1

    ..NET Framework WinForms
    ..Net Framework CRT
    ..NET Framework CA
    ..NET Framework PreXP
    ..NET Framework 1
    ..NET Framework 2
    ..NET Framework ASP .NET
    ..NET Framework CLR

Note I have the following KB’s downloaded in 2009
    Hotfix for Windows XP (KB954708)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB958687)
Seecurity Update for Windows XP (KB9607150
    Update for Windows XP (KB967715)

Also have Windows XP Service Pack 3

    1. Write down the .NET Framework versions which are already installed:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

    2. Now see Resolutions Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100
(ignore the title). After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install
all .NET Framework versions manually using the download links on the page.

Re: Problem Downloading Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 an

Eventually ... but eventually how I managed to get rid of the beast [KB967717] ... purely by luck as I know 'nought' about computers:-

First let me mention that I have XP Home, Norton Internet Security 2009, & Adware ant-Spyware.

Next: I had interminable problem with 're-Installation' at every re-boot. I could even NOT Un-install KB967715 [as MS advises] via the 'Add/Remove'... nor could I physically trace the files to delete them.

This is what I did to rid of it:-

    (1) I used my 'Search' to locate all the KB967715 files.
    (2) Deleted them to the 'Bin'
    (3) DISABLED my Norton
    (4) From the 'shield icon' in my tray, selected to 'Install' it [KB967715], hoping hoping against hope ... something even better happened. The screen came up with 'Could Not Be Installed' ... and everything just 'Disappeared' into thin air >> Hoooraaah.
    (6) I promptly emptied the 'Bin' >> it is really GONE!

I have also manually removed .Net Framework 3.5 by 'Add/Remove' facility ... I don't think I need it at all.
I have now re-booted three times ... no sign of the damn thing ... I had been living with the horror for the last few days. I don't care a bit if it is not installed.

PS. Just 'Deleting' [KB967715] ... without disabling Norton, did not work ... on re-booting it just came back. I do not know the explanation and don't much care.

Suggest you decline and hide Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847). Instead, download,
*save* and then install .NET Framework 2.0 SP2:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...4-b4e1b196d5c0

IF the system has ever had difficulty installing .NET Service Packs or
security updates, then suggest you Clean Boot XP and install SP2 from
    the Clean Boot state:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

IF registry or disk clean up 'tools' have been run, then there's a
strong likelihood that the SP will fail to install.
The only resolution then is to uninstall .NET 2 and all updates for it,
reboot, redownload and reinstall all of the same.

IF .NET 2 can not be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs, then use the
    tool here to remove it:

Re: Problem Downloading Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack

I located it manually by size in the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
folder by size, - about 130 MB, - after updates downloaded it and rejected to
install < Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5
Family Update (KB951847) x86 >. I opened the file with Winrar and extracted
the installer, installed it manually. Later, I returned to the Updates
Website and it still showed me that I had to install .Net 3.5, thought it was
already listed in the Add/Remove Programs list. I tried to run the Updates
installed to let make it sure that the .Net 3.5 already installed. But it
returned the failure installation error. This is not a .Net error, this is a
Windows Updates bug which must be analyzed and fixed my MS techs. So, I have
this .Net 3.5 marked as hidden and, also, I have manually deleted all
downloaded and the other settings files in \Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    directory.

If you search this & the XP newsgroups in the past 2 weeks someone asked the
    same question

As for Microsoft having the updates on CD, they do. It's an ISO

Why don't you use an adsl connection to download the .NET Framework SP1
redistributable then the 3 updates after that. Sure, it's around 270 MB but
you could put on a flash drive, copy to the other machine & run it manually.

Unfortunately the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 redistributable doesn't include the
latest fixes, hence you need to run the other 3 afterwards.

    3.5 SP1 Redistributable:

    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...dotnetfx35.exe

    Updates after the above installed:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...ng=en#filelist

When you install them, don't restart until all 4 updates have been applied

    I have a similar problem.

When I changed the net card, the installation normally completed.

The old card was out of tolerance - bad net card :-/

    good luck
