Failure to update

The following Update continually fails to update....Any suggestions?

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family

I am a Linux admin with a Virtual Windows XP Pro install. I don't know
a lot
about windows. But there are two apps I have to run under it. I keep
getting the same error
when I try to update my box. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack
1 and .NET Framework
3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86.

It says it failed with Error Code: 0x20000009. People have suggested
turning off antivirus software. People have suggested installing .Net
3.5. None of these
worked for me. I had another box with the same problem and like on the
20th try it magically
worked. I have no idea why. Its extremely frustrating. I would like to
keep my virtual machine patched.
Perhaps that is impossible now?

Anyone have a different fix other than uninstalling all of .Net and re-
installing it again?
(ala http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 as someone else suggested
in another thread)
If that is what is required to fix a box like this I'm about to say
just wipe the damn thing and re-install
from scratch again. Perhaps some of Microsoft's earlier updates
screwed this one up?

Ok. This kind of sucks for people who had this problem but I got mine
to work and I don't know how or why. So nevermind I guess. :)
