| KB961260 won't install thru auto update or manually
When trying to install this update thru Auto Update it won't go thru...message says "some updates not installed"...when I check, it's the above noted update. When I tried to install it manually, it starts to install then stops with an "Access Denied" pop-up, have to click 'ok'...after clicking "ok" another pop-up opens saying: Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly. On the Windows list of Updates page, when I check my current list of updates, it also shows it did not download with an error code of: 0x80070005 So, what do I do now? Can anyone please help? |

Do a search on that error number. Try also going through Windows/Microsoft Update and see if offered. Those site will give a better explanation of the code. If not.... Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when posting to this newsgroup. In this case, also state your IE version. Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527 For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB961260). LOOK! => If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the above number and ask to be transferred to the "Consumer IE queue" (which is 47830). Support for Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.net AngelHeart wrote: > When trying to install this update thru Auto Update it won't go > thru...message says "some updates not installed"...when I check, it's the > above noted update. | yep, same
Same problem, under XP Pro SP3. This update is a dud, and seems to be killing other updates and installations. |

There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a hijackware infection. 1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx 2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be): http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm 3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here.
