To upgrade from .NET Framework 1.1 to 3.5 service pack 1
Do I need to install 2.0 & 3.0 before 3.5 SP1

It's not an upgrade, per se.

No. .NET Framework 3.5 (SP1) contains/comes with .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0.
Please note, that .NET Framework 3.5 does not replace .NET Framework 1.1.

RE: upgrade from .NET Framework 1.1 to the latest 3.5

Along the same line, I just installed .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on my computer
tonight and I noticed I have older versions of .NET Framework already
installed:
1.1
1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)
2.0 SP2
3.0 SP2

Can I remove the older versions from my computer?

Benefits of the Microsoft .NET Framework
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829019

Most of the time, you can use the latest version of the .NET Framework to
run applications that were created by using earlier versions of the .NET
Framework.

Just leave them, they are all individual versions and co-exist.
