Since December 15th, 2008, when I go to the Windows Update Page, it has
prompted me to install the subject update. I have done this 11 times since
then and again today. What is wrong??
Please Help, Thank You,

George,
Go here: Microsoft Malware Protection Center
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx
Click the link in the right frame under ' Latest Definition Updates '
for either the x86 [32 bit] or x64 [64 bit] edition of Windows installed.
*Save* the definitions that will now download.
Once the download completes close all open programs and browsers.
Now run the downloaded file [ if the edition of Windows is Vista, then
*right* click it and choose 'Run as administrator'. Follow the prompts
to allow it to run ].
Did that get the latest defs installed ?

Windows (and Automatic) Update usually will offer you two (2) Defender
definitions updates per week. All of them point to KB915597. IOW, don't
worry about it as long as a given update installs successfully.
Check your Update History section at Windows Update webpage.

PA Bear, thank you for your response. So you're saying that as long as this
update keeps downloading successfully, I shouldn't worry about it??
Should I do as suggested by MowGreen [MVP]??

Yes, that is correct/don't worry about it.
If you want, you can manually update Defender as often as you wish via the
Security Portal page that my colleague MowGreen mentioned in his reply.
Please note that the download from the Security Portal is MUCH larger than
what Automatic Updates downloads twice a week.
