Windows Vista fails to install KB952069

For 3 weeks now, Vista has been trying to install KB952068.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Every time I run it, it fails with:
"Code 8024200D Windows encountered an unknown error"

Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events shows:
"Windows Servicing identified that package KB952069(Security Update) is not
    applicable for this system
Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update
952069-1_neutral_LDR from package KB952069(Security Update) into
    Staging(Staging) state

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with
error 0x8024200d: Security Update for Windows Vista (KB952069).
Windows Servicing identified that package KB952069(Security Update) is not

Clearly this update is applicable to my system, otherwise Windows wouldn't
have kept trying for the past 3 weeks.

    Any ideas, anybody?
    John
