Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2

I run Microsoft Vista on my computer. I constantly have a reminder to update
in Windows Update for the same file...Security Update for Microsoft XML Core
Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181). I click to install it, it runs and
acts as if it installs but then minutes later I have another reminder to
install the same update. I have tried to use the command function and delete
the file to no avail. Any more ideas/suggestions?

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2
(KB936181) may repeatedly appear in the update list on Microsoft Update or on
    Windows Update

This issue may occur if one of the system files is corrupted or if it has
    not been updated correctly.

You may be repeatedly offered this update.

Different versions of MSXML are included with various Microsoft products,
such as Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft SQL
Server, and some third-party products. You may be offered this update again
if you install a new product or if you update a product that includes a
different version of MSXML than the one that you already have.

Restart in safe mode and try to run that command.

I did that and it seemed to work. Now whenever I try to install the new file
from the website, I get an error message. It is from Windows Installer and
states "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log
file location exsists and is writable." It only has an ok button to click.
Any suggestions on where to go now

My computer doesn't seem to be installing the Security Update for Microsoft
XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181). It will go through the
installation process and will display 'Installation status: Successful'. I
have also restarted my computer after installation. What is going wrong.

    Hi

PA Bear.....This is this first time I have gone down this track to get some
assistance so I'm new at this. I'm not computer literate as some and I missed
out on providing all the details. PA bear I don't need smart comments and
your response could have been worded differently. I'm going to skip this
avenue of assistance and get help somewhere else. Thanks TaurArian for your
    help.

Re: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pa

    PA Bear,
I am having this problem and have tried all the advice I can find. I have:
    Dell XPS M1530
    Windows Vista Home Premium
the alert of new updates shows up everyday, I download it, it shows that it
was succesful. The log shows it was successful, but I went to uninstall it
and there is no update with this code (KB936181) in the "Installed Updates"
file. Confusing...I tried the command prompt (ren
    %windir%\System32\msxml4.dll msxml4.old) it says "access denied"...the
command prompt shows C:\users\eric> so I believe it recognizes me as the
administrator...I manually try to do the update along with (KB941833) that
was recommended to increase the compatibility and when I do so I get an error
message "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specific log
file location exists and is writable".
    Any suggestions?

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2

The update Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2
(KB954430) won't install onto my computer i've restarted it multiple times
and it always end up as a failed installation. Because of my automatic
updates it keeps reappearing every 2 minutes. Is there anyway to install this
update because it seems to be necessary. I tried installing from both my
    computer and on the website.

    Thanks

Re: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2

Quick and temporary solution is as follows

The reason for error is "Two or more instances of the Msiexec.exe service cannot be launched at the same time for two different products. One install or repair process must finish before the other process can be launched. "

    1. Press Ctrl+Alt and delete
    2. A windows task manager window will pop up
    3. go to "Processes"
    4. Select "Msiexec.exe" in the list and press End process button located at bottom right side of windows task manager window.
    5. Check the list and end the "Msiexec.exe " any running there.
    6. Now you will be able to run and install your application without any error.

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2

This has reinstalled 8 times. I have rebooted and run malicious software
scans- but it keeps wanting to install Security Update for Microsoft XML Core
Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) over and over. I looked at my update
history and it shows successful installs all 8 times but it still wants to
    install. Any suggestions?

RE: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pa

I tried going into updates myself and again installing it- it indicated a
successful update (just as the previous 8 updates do) . I checked in the file
you indicated and it is not the correct version- what do I do now?
