.net framework 3.5 sp1 installation fails

When I try to install .net 3.5 sp1 (windows xp pro) the installation fails
and the error log tells me that "DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework
3.0 SP2 x86 is not installed."

I have tried installing .net 3.5 and then installing 3.5 sp1 but the same
error still appears. How can I install .net 3.0 sp2? I do not see any
stand alone download.

This INFO was copied from a MSDN Blog. This worked for me but it takes more
than 30 minutes.

It if very hard to say the root cause of the issue without checking the
install log. But with MSDN troubleshooting experience you can try the below
steps:

1. Run the MS cleanup tool ; msicuu2.exe

2. After cleanup has completed.

3. Browse to folder c:\Windows and delete the Folder name Microsoft.Net

4. Browse to folder c:\windows\system32 look for a file name mscoree.dll and
see if it is available, and if you find that delete it

5. Click Start > Run > Type Regedit > Ok > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE >
MICROSOFT > Delete the key .Netframework

6. Rename the folder C:\MSOCache C:\MSOCache_old

6. Restart the computer

1. Click Start Run Type %temp% delete all the files there after you sort by
date modified and you might not able to delete some file which you can
ignore

2. Open a notepad and copy the as it is below and the save it as
verbose.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]

"EnableAdminTSRemote"=dword:00000001

"Logging"="voicewarmup"

3. Once the registry key is created double click on that and at the prompt
say yes

4. This verbose logging will create the log file an will help MSDN to find
the cause

5. Run the installation of frame work. If it installs you are finished. If
not send the log files which will get created in the Temp folder with name
as MSI. Zip those files and send it to MSDN at;

Hi Guys,

I have a 2003R2 server that will not update with the .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 update the error message I get is:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a. MSI returned error code 1603
[05/15/09,08:03:59] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0a is not installed.

I have unistalled all updates refereing to .NET Framework frrom 1 upwards but still it fails... do you think that following the rules/recomendations in the thread above would benefit me? IDid the running of the "MS cleanup tool ; msicuu2.exe" actually work in your instance stan? Could Joy shine any more light on this for me as I would like to fix this.

The server is a Fujitsu Siemens RX300s2 runing 2003R2 but was upgraded from 2KPro therefore has a WINNT Folder rather than a WINDOWS folder for windows...

Any help would be great - thanks!

1. Before doing anything else, write down the .NET Framework versions which
are already installed:

How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and
whether service packs have been applied

2. Now see Resolution Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100
(ignore the title). After running the appropriate/needed tool, (re)install
all .NET Framework versions manually using the download links on the page.
