| Update for Windows Live Photo Gallery (KB 955359) Fails
time. When I try to uninstall it, I get a message that says: 'could not access network location'. So I go to hit 'cancel', I get a message that says: 'fatal error during installation'. I can't get rid of this program or update it. I keep getting nagged to update it and I don't know how to just ignore the update all together. Can someone please tell me what to do? or where I can get the patched version? I can't even install a new copy of it. Thanks in advance. -- Most computer problems are caused the loose nut between the chair and the keyboard. |

Uninstall Windows Live Photo Gallery | Download/install the most recent version. |

If you read my post, I did mention that I tried to uninstall the program. It did not work. Then try overinstalling the latest version. Otherwise, contact Windows Live Support: https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?...ery&ct=eformts Did you try and manually install the latest version rather than trying to update the same? http://download.live.com/photogallery I found a solution! - see below. But I want you to know that I backed up everything related to my pictures, clip art, EVERYTHING before I got rid of Windows Live Photo Gallery using the method below. Please let me know if this helped you. Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition, just so you can install a Windows Live app? I don't I'd do that. |

I did contact Windows Live Support and apparently, they are aware that there is a wide spread problem with updating this program. When they find a fix for it, they will let us know. The problem of updating is on their end of it. Hopefully others will know of this also. |

Found a way around the problem. Download the beta from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...-Gallery.shtml Copy the file to the folder: c:\Windows\Installer (it's a hidden folder - so just type it in) Run PhotoLibrary.msi from this folder, and you should be fine - as me. Bjørn Tore Hoem |

I, too, am having problems uninstalling Windows Live Photo Gallery - same situation as Tatbrat. It's now April 16, 2009, surely there's a fix to download by now... what's the update on this situation? I am unable to install any Windows Live programs now and this seems to be the central issue. |

Yes. Didn't work. However, here's how I resolved my issue. 1. Downloaded Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (Article ID 29301 9/19/08 revision 6.7), located it in my programs list & opened. Selected Windows Live Photo Gallery from the list. Poof, gone. After working on this for 3 days!!! 2. Went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953466 "Cannot complete the installation of Windows Live Suite applications", selected my operating environment (Windows XP SP3), after verifying that I had all of the required programs (listed in my add/remove programs), I installed all Windows Live programs from there. It was a different installation interface than I was working with in the MS downloads - but all is well. Please pass the word around. |

PA Bear: I'm not sure you are following Microsoft's advice if I understand your reply correctly. Also, as I read thru your discussion threads, you are not correctly assessing our problems. I question your MS MVP ranking because of your inability to read and understand the original problem. I also question your ranking because you are expressly not supporting MS suggestions. You are too quick to pull the trigger and are a pain because you bring nothing to the table. Butt out or support Microsoft's instructions or tell Microsoft they are wrong. That would be useful. My post actually was successful, no thanks to your suggestions. Got it? |

Pity the easy way didn't work and you had to take the long way but at least you have what you want and that's the main thing. Thanks for updating the thread. |

MVPs do not work for or represent MS, nor are we obligated to "toe the line." In fact, MVPs are MS's best critics. MS MVP Overview: http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/gp/mvpexecsum While I'm happy for you that the combination of running the Cleanup utility and KB953466 resolved your problem, I wouldn't have jumped through the same hoops simply to update or install WL Photo Gallery. In fact, I suspect that KB940065 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940065) would have been a better solution if you weren't able to install the most-recent version of the app. Had you started your own thread about your problem instead of hijacking someone else's, I might have suggested KB940065. Have a /wonderful/ day! Jennifer in Colorado wrote: > PA Bear: I'm not sure you are following Microsoft's advice if I > understand > your reply correctly. I too have had problems in trying to get Windows Live Photo Gallery to work on my Vista laptop, and after several installs and reinstalls and uninstalls, I tried the program RegCure and removed all registration entries and it worked first time after that. I had also tried removing all photos from my Pictures file and copying them into a different directory but that hadn't worked either. Hope this helps someone. |
