I am getting the exact same problem on Vista. It's proving very annoying and I've not found any way to fix it yet. Many people have had the same problem, scroll down the posts from the last two days and you will find the fix to your problem. -- WT "Stepram" wrote: > Update for Microsoft Works 8 (KB955428) keeps failing as it canot find > works8.msi > > I have ran a search and can not find it anyware on the computer. > > Anyone got any Ideas? > > I am running XP SP3 and works 8. > > Thanks > > Stephen |

I've looked around and found some helpful posts of your's with a download link. I've downloaded it and saved it to my desktop, but when I go to double click I get a pop-up asking to allow or disallow the installer to access my computer. Even after clicking Allow, however, nothing further happens. This possible fix was posted by Pa Bear yesterday, god luck. 1. Download the update from this link (SAVE it to your desktop, don't RUN it): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en 2. Insert your MS Works 8 CD (if available) into the appropriate drive bay. 3. Double-click on the saved file to install the update; follow all prompts. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ -- WT "Droids" wrote: > I've looked around and found some helpful posts of your's with a download > link. That's exactly what I was doing, and I'm having no luck. I don't have a MS Works disc and it seems to want it in order to install. Now it's giving me error messages about reading a certain .msi file. Is this update absoloutely necessary even I don't have a disc, or can I safely ignore it as it's proving extremely difficult to update? :\ "williamtell" wrote: > This possible fix was posted by Pa Bear yesterday, god luck. > 1. Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527 Support for Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB955428). For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.net Droids wrote: > That's exactly what I was doing, and I'm having no luck. I got it to work! I searched and searched on the internet, and while looking about a Vista fan site's forums I learned that the download link you had given me is well known to 'not look like it installed anything,' and after following some directions checked to see if it had installed the MS Works 8 updates or not. Turns out it has been installed and now I've hidden the bugged update as I've already downloaded it. Thanks for all of your help.
