| KB955428 update
Is there any plan to evolve this update to one that actaully works? Pretty clear there are lots of problems here. |

Pretty > clear there are lots of problems here. You're right about the update, sorry PA Bear. I also had the update problem but finally fixed it by putting my Works 8.5 CD in the optical drive. After a reboot I went to Win Updates again, it thought about it, it read my CD drive, and the update succeeded. There's a problem for sure, but it can be worked out with the Works CD (at least it did for me). EW |

I agree. This update keeps wanting the Works CD to be inserted. That is NOT how is it supposed to work. Yes - inserting the CD may work - but why does no other update require us to insert the CD? I think the update is flawed. When the download completes close all open browsers and programs. Right click the downloaded .cab file and choose Extract All Now run the extracted file. The problem is many manufactures don't supply the cd's with a new puter anymore. So like myself many people don't have the cd on pre installed programs. "pyz01" wrote: > I agree. While what you say is true, it is also true that you *can* request CD/DVDs from whatever company you are thinking of buying from (sometimes LONG after purchasing - even after the warranty expires)... If you are just thinking about purchasing and they cannot or will not give you installation media CD/DVDs (not restoration CD/DVDs) - then you should refuse to purchase and choose elsewhere. Didn't know that before?
