I noticed that this message kept appearing after the PC tried to access the (empty) Floppy Drive.
My computer was also painfully slow. I had attached an external hard drive, which had downloaded Memeo Auto Backup. I removed Memeo from the Startup (where it defaulted) and now manually do Memeo backups.
This stopped the message appearing and the computer was noticeably faster.
I then downloaded Paretologic PC Health advisor. I run it regularly and my PC is nearly like new. And no more error messages.

I wasted a lot of time trying to solve this problem. I had never used Regedit, but, abolobna's instructions are clear, and VOILA!

What a simple and quick solution to such a frustrating problem. Many thanks to abolobna.

The icing on the cake would be WHAT caused that c0000013 itch?

On my XP Pro machine, I looked in the registry Hkey Local Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows and did not find Error Mode listed. So, I simply higlighted System then did a registry Find for ErrorMode. It revealed ErrorMode in a listing of Media. I changed the ErrorMode value to 2 there as suggested. Then I closed the error message popup and amazingly, it did not reappear! Ok, I was lucky but it has worked. Thanks for the clues!

I have the same problem and i tried to run ''regedit'' but it says that my registry editing has been disabled by administrator . Can anyone tell me hot to enable i'd be thankful :)

Have you tried to use the Group policy editor

I tried this, but on my system it only takes me to there are no sub-folders in \CONTROL\ - there are no sub-folders in there. I have Default (value not set), Current User (USERNAME), SystemBootDevice (multi(0)disk(0(rdisk(0)partition(1), SystemStartOptions (FASTDETECT NOEXECUTE=OPTIN) and WaitToKillService (20000). There is no Windows folder and no ErrorMode.
Any ideas?

Was any previous Windows Operating system installed on this pc? Have you tried a repair installation, or you can even use a 3rd party boot manager, such as BootIt Next Generation, at bootitng.com. With BootIt, you would simply do the installation, then create boot menu items for each OS. You can set these boot menu items up so that each OS can see the other disk, or hide the other disk from each OS.

Thanks for your reply ... I've always had the same version of Windows XP on the system though at the very beginning we had to install version 2 and then update it. But it's been on this hard drive for years so I don't know why it's suddenly come up with the exception message now! Thanks for looking at it, though - I'll see what I can do. It's been okay for the last few days: hopefully it won't give any further problems.
