    Error installing (KB 921896)

This is listed as an Important Update:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896)

    Download size: 56.4 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

    Update type: Important

This service pack upgrades all Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
instances and components to Service Pack 2 (SP2). If you need additional
installation options, you should download this service pack at the Microsoft
Download Center. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article
    921896.

I tried to install and this is the error I get: WindowsUpdate_00002B33

What should I do? Is it truly an Important update and if so, how do I
    install it?

Looks like you have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed.

Could you post the contents of the summary.txt log located at C:\Program
Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix? We can then debug
    the issue.

I, too, am running ACT version 2007 that relies upon SQL Server for the
Desktop. I've tried stopping the SQL Server Process while changing its type
to "Manual" from "Automatic". I've tried "Manual" while it was "running".
SQL Server's normal status after a reboot and without starting ACT is
"running" and "automatic". Still I am unsuccessful in Service Pack 2's
installation. I get Error Code: 0x2B26.

BTW: I've been wanting to buy a new laptop with Vista but the ACT
application needs elements of SQL Server that Vista reportedly doesn't
support. Does Service Pack 2 address this deficiency?

    Thanks for the help!

Looks like the Express service is disabled. The service needs to be startable
for the upgrade to complete. Go to Administrate Tools and then Services. Look
for the entry called "SQL Server (ACT7)". Right-click on the entry and choose
properties. You should see the "Startup Type" is disabled. Change the
"Startup Type" to manual. Rerun the installation through Microsoft Update.

I've also received the same error, and in reading the thread from the last
few days I think I discovered "something" with my ACT which gets in the way,
but it doesn't appear to be quite the same as the previous user...

Below is the "summary" file as requested from the earlier poster

Thanks for any help you can provide...

    RE: Error installing (KB 921896)

I recently successfully upgraded to Win Vista from Win XP. I have an HP
Media Center computer. I am having my first big Vista probelm. Win Vista
Update notified me that KB 921896 needed to be downloaded and installed. It
appears to download and start to install. Sudddenly it stops and I get an
error code 2B22 or 2B26. I spent 3 hours with MS Online Tech Chat India.
There was no explanation of the error codes. The tech remotely installed KB
921896 from the MS download page. I rebooted and still couldn't download the
Win Vista Update item. I was told that MS SLQ Server 2005 is incompatible
with Vista. What am I supposed to do? I cannot use Outlook Business
Contacts 2007. I think the MS Accounting 2007 needs SQL too. My Hotfix data
    is below. Thanks!

What password? What account? ...when there is only one administrator
    account on the computer?

    Thanks!

    RE: Error installing (KB 921896)

Steve... I have the exact same issue with ACT7... It appears that the
Windows Update program needs the authentic process for logging to the
SLServer instance to be in the "Windows Authentication" mode instead of
"Mixed Authentication" mode which is the ACT7 default. Unfortuantely, ACT7
insulates the user from having easy access to change this authentication
process. Thus, Windows Update looks to login to SQLServer using an
authentication process that is not valid with the way that ACT7 has setup the
SQLServer instance. I do not know how to get around this... but this is the
key to the problem... I am hoping Microsoft or ACT (not helpful) can advise
as to how to temporarily active SQLServer to the "Widows Authentication" mode.

Please note that ACT7 users are setup to use the "Local System" built in
account of SQLServer 2005 Express... which normally does not have a password
required (or revealed).... Clearly the Windows Update process is not able to
logon (fails) with this default account. Should I try to logon by some sort
of other process (not sure how to do this)... There are options to use other
sorts of account types.... but it is unclear how to set them up.

I have the exact same issue with ACT7... It appears that the
Windows Update program needs the authentic process for logging to the
SLServer instance to be in the "Windows Authentication" mode instead of
"Mixed Authentication" mode which is the ACT7 default. Unfortuantely, ACT7

(I must say firstly sory about my english, i'm still working on it ;))

    Administrative Tools --> Services

You have to make sure these are starting automaticly

    SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS or SQL)
SQL Server Active Directory Helper (Optional)
    SQL Server Browser
    SQL Server VSS Writer

If they are disabled change them automatic start and try to install KB 921896 again.

I am having a similar problem installing the update for SQL Server Express
