WMP11 (Vista) will not play WMA files

Can anyone help? I have a new PC with Vista, but WMP11 will not play .wma files. It displays them in the library but when I click on a track to play nothing happens; just a small red dot appears next to the track name.

It does play mp3 files with no problem.

I can, however, play the .wma files using RealPlayer, so I know they are not corrupted. The files were originally ripped from my own CDs using AudioGrabber on WinXP.

I want to use WMP but for now I am forced to use RealPlayer for listening to my music collection.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful!

Adrian.

Are the .wma's files that you've ripped from your CD legal?
WMP's digital rights management, if not turned off, or the inbuilt copy protection built into downloaded .wma's could have something to do with it.
Have you updated Windows media player too? This can stop protected wma's being played if the licences weren't backed up.
Just a thought.

Perhaps the charactor length for the path is either too long (as you may be aware, microsoft path names must be limited to around 255 chatactors) causing an invalid message.

I ripped the CDs without any copy protection, and they used to play on my old Windows XP PC using WMP 9.

Is there a protection setting in WMP 11 that needs to be turned off?

It will not even play the sample .wma files that came with Vista!

I had a similar problem with WMP 11, simply UNinstalled it and went back to WMP 9 and it all works fine now.
