    HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'SYSTEM')

    Hi,
    HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'SYSTEM')
Is this legit? To the best of my knowledge Windows Defender noted and allowed this registry change (I believe is the correct terminology?) two days ago.
Prior to that though I had noticed that my Updates from Microsoft (including Windows Defender) were not installing correctly and none of the Microsoft recommended actions worked, including reinstalling my defender, my anti virus and my firewall.
I have also been unable today to reinstall IE7 because the process just won't stop. When I had IE7 a gen? 32 file kept having to close (sorry that is not very good information!)
I'm not sure whether to put my hi jack this log up but just in case...here's some of it.
I'm reluctant to believe a virus or spyware is the cause because I always have my anti virus and my firewall active...as well as Defender..my PC is behind a firewalled router (quite standard Belkin router)...but before I restore my hard drive (as possibly my system folders are corrupt) I thought I'd see if any one has an opinion please.
See below and thank you in advance for your time.
