    System Restore Problems

    Hi,

I have a netbook with no disc drive and have forgotten the password on my administrator account, i then went on to safe mode and changed the settings on the control panel so the pc doesnt ask for passwords at the beginning with different accounts, but still asks for the first one.

How do i restore my laptop to factory settings without a disc drive, no discs came with it. When i press F8 the options are:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable VGA mode
    Last Known Good Configuration
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows Domain Controllers Only)
    Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure

    Start Windows Normally
    Reboot

I have tried all of these, and need to restart back to factory settings. Thanks in advance.

    restore factory settings

    Turn on the laptop.
    1. As the computer starts, press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

      Note:
      • You must press <F8> before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

    2. Press the <Down Arrow> on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.

    3. Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.

    4. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.

    5. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.

    6. In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.

    7. Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.

    8. Click Next.
    9. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

    10. When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

There is a small dot size hole on the side of the laptop. With a compass or a pen or some pointed substance press that button (inside the hole). It will reset your laptop deleting all your saved data.

For my Eee PC, I just hit F9 while rebooting, and a few minutes later my machine is as good as new.

Just go to the Safe Mode and reset the password of the administrator. It will not ask you the passwords any more.
