Error "skype can't connect"

Something is wrong going on with Skype in my case. Whenever I try to log in to skype I get an error message saying "Skype can't connect." even when I am entering the right password. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection as I can access all other sites and applications without any issue. Has anyone else faced this error or is aware of the same?? I need to fix it as soon as possible, so a quick reply will be highly appreciated.

Since you have mentioned that there is nothing wrong with internet connection, I think there might be something wrong with Skype. I want to know if this issue has started suddenly or it’s since you have installed Skype.

It has started suddenly and I am not able to make out the exact cause of this issue. It was working fine until yesterday. God knows what went wrong with it suddenly. By now I have tried below things:
Disabling antivirus
Disabling firewall
Uninstalling and reinstalling
Is there anything else that I can try out further???

Before I suggest you anything, answer me following questions:

1. Which version of windows you are running?
2. Which version of skype you have installed??
3. Is it the latest version??
4. Is your windows updated with recommended updates??
5. Have you installed any application recently after which this issue might have started??

Just answer me these things so that I can have better idea of the issue you are going through.

Windows vista
Latest version of skype – I had installed it from its official site
My system is up to date with all recommended windows update installed
I have installed some games recently but I don’t think they might be interfering with skype in any terms.
There is surely something wrong with skype, don’t know why uninstalling and reinstalling is not making any difference in my case.

Try this and let me know if it works:
Close Skype
Press Windows key + R
Type %appdata% in Run dialog and hit enter
Check out for Skype folder and rename it to Skype_old
Once you are done with the same, restart skype and cross check if issue persists.

I tried renaming Skype folder to Skype_old but that dint made any difference in my case. I still get the same error message when I try to sign in. I am just running out of ideas now. Please let me know if you are aware of any solution that might help and thanks in advance.
