Re: How to fix FTP Errors in Dreamweaver CS5

Most probably the causes behind FTP Errors are outdated system and/or outdated Dreamweaver application. As you might be knowing Dreamweaver CS6 is now also available in the market, you are still stuck with CS5. So first off you should update your Dreamweaver and os drivers to latest version. If you don’t want to update it to CS6, you can atleast update it to CS5.5 in order to fix the FTP issues.

To update Dreamweaver you just need to open Dreamweaver and click on help. Now select update. After doing this, you should do a Windows Update. Let both the tasks finished and than try to make your website again. Hope you wont be getting the error any more.

Yeah, that is the working troubleshoots with all FTP issue in Dreamweaver. In case if you’re not able to solve after updating OS and Dreamweaver then you should try to set up an FTP Remote Server. All version of Dreamweaver utilize FTP for uploading and downloading website which you’re using. Hence if haven’t created proper remote server then you will get FTP error. To setup FTP remote server click on server category under Site Setup windows or dialog box. Once you have setup FTP Site then click on Test to check whether your connection is properly created or not. If you’re not able to setup FTP server then you should check FTP access. There are lots of causes if you’re not able to setup FTP server such as Router, Firewall, Antivirus and all other network related components. All these things prevent you to setup FTP server. So before creating FTP server you need to disable necessary program or component.

You can go through the below steps to verify FTP access:
First thing you should check is Router because router comes with built in firewall or proxy server and this might block you to create FTP server. So to check Router I would like to suggest you to remove router network connection on your system and connect your system to DSL or cable modem.

Second Steps is to check firewall or proxy settings: I have seen lots of firewall or proxy server which prevent Dreamweaver to access FTP Server. Most of home router doesn’t use Hardware firewall, so first you should contact with router manufacture and make sure whether your router using hardware Firewall or not. if it is using than set exceptions for your site and Dreamweaver. You can simply do this clicking on SITE in Dreamweaver. Now select manage Site and click on site which you want to use. There will option like edit, click on that, select Pencil icon to configure server. Now in server modify dialog box, select use Proxy in Preferences option and click on Preferences link... Now here entre all firewall or proxy detail in Proxy Host and Proxy Port boxes, you will get this option in Site category. Once you entered everything click on save and exit the Setup.

Passive Mode might help you to fix FTP issue if firewall doesn't allow you to connect FTP server. Try enabling or disabling Passive Mode and see if it works. Here are the steps to do the same:
Open Dreamweaver and select site
Click on Manage Sites.
Choose your site and click on Edit
Select remote server from server category,
Extract the server category and select Use Passive FTP or disable Use Passive FTP
Now save this setting and then try to access your website.

If enabling and disabling Passive Mode dint works than try to enable IPv6 transfer mode.
