older emails only in Outlook 2010

I open my outlook and it defaults to showing an older email in the reading pane. Say I have 3 new emails today and 3 emails from yesterday.
I click on one of the new emails, it shows up in the reading window for 1 second, then the highlight bar switches to an older email from yesterday, for example, and displays it in the reading window.
I can click again, and again on the new email, but it just switched back to the older one.
I've run malware bytes, nod32, nothing found.

I was also having similar kind of problems and to solve it I opened Outlook 2010 in safe mode and then went to Start, then at "Search programs and files" typed Run, hit enter, and when dialogue box opened, type outlook /safe, that the word outlook, then a space, then a slash and the word safe. Outlook opened and I was able to view all emails. Hope that works for you as well.
