App-v package management solution without App-V Server

It seems like a developer had managed to create an app-v package management solution. He had posted a thread on technet offering a free download of his solution. He also claimed that, he had managed to get it working for all test packages but yet it did not have complete extensive testing. Currently it is an alpha version. With the use of this app, you or admin will be able to publish app-v packages on remote machines and they don’t need SCCM or App-V Server for that. While using this app, one thing you have to make sure that file based streaming needs to be enabled on remote system.

Virtualized applications can be deployed as packages that are generated using a so-called sequencer. He records all the requests during the simulated installation of the software on operating system resources, so that they can be intercepted and diverted during the term. An important new feature of App-V 5.0 is generated by the sequencer now a new package format. The previous SFT files APPV the soft-Files, which are located at ZIP archive with all needed resources. As a result of this change, packages that were created with App-V 4.x, use no more in the new version. App-V 5.0 does, however, with conversion tools to transfer existing applications can be virtualized.

App-V stands for a delivery of applications, which is considered as an alternative to conventional installation. Programs run in a sandbox, which simulates the software is running Windows services, such as the file system or registry. It does this to prevent applications modifying the operating system and defused in this way conflicts between programs. Applications can reach through different mechanisms to the client, preferably via the streaming of the currently required codes.

Now it is possible to Launch Virtualized Application without the use of AppV Management Server. This is a very important factor and it will be very useful whenever you are troubleshooting on the application. If you don’t have App-V Management Server, you can still launch or publish virtualized application. To do this:
    • Copy virtualized application folder with all sequenced files like Icons, .sft, .sprj, .xml, and .osd to local c:\
    • Open the .osd file with notepad.
    • Search for the code something like CODEBASE HREF
    • Edit the protocol to FILE, and hostname to C:
    • Save the file and open it with AppV Client by right clicking it.
    • In this step if you see any kind of error, you have to edit the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SoftGrid\4.5\Client\Configuration and edit its value "AllowIndependentFileStreaming" value to 1.
