Publisher 2010 Cannot open file error

Hello Everyone,

Hopefully I can be pointed in the right direction. I have a user that is using a Windows 7 machine, with Office 2010 Professional Plus and cannot open files from Publisher 2007. I also tried on my machine, same specs and I can't open either. If i double click the file, publisher 2010 opens but I get the yellow exclaimation and it says "cannot open file" when I click Ok, it closes the program. if i open publisher 2010 and go to open I get the same message but the programs stays open. I can't find anything online that will help. I am stumped

Can you try to copy the file to your local drive and then try opening again. What is the extension shown on the desktop file? Is it still a .pub extension? Right-click the file, properties, Opens with...change, associate the file with Publisher. Some external hard drives are considered removable drives, Publisher doesn't do well with removable drives.

The file is on my local computer and the extension is .pub.

Have you tried troubleshooting a damaged publication in Publisher. Try to start the computer in Safe Mode, and then try to open the publication. If you do not receive an error message, a program or a device that is loaded when the computer is in normal mode may interfere with the publication.
