Installing Zune Software with Media Center 2002

I got a Windows Phone and I thought I could live without the Zune software, but 8GB and SkyDrive aren't doing it for me. So I need to install Zune on my PC really bad.

Ok, so it says on My Computer>Properties that I have a

Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

and my Media Center Settings>General..>About Media Center

Windows XP MCE 2005
Version 5.1.2715.2859
Update Rollup 2

I already tried installing SP3 but Zune still won't work. And I learned later on that it doesn't work on MC 2002.

I also read a lot of work around for Zune to work in my OS, but there's just a lot of stuff that I have to do (I saw .NET files, the rollups, etc). It gets confusing and I just want someone to simplify them for me.

The problem is that Zune Software only supports only Media Center 2002. So you wont be able to install it on MCE 2002 or MCE 2004. You can read suggestions given in similar kind of thread here - Problem installing Zune software with XP Media Center

Yup..and here's another one - Zune not compatible with XP Media Center, Edition 2002. I did browse the forum before I posted this thread.

And maybe you mean, it only supports MC 2005?? And not 2002 and 2004...

Exactly, you see on my post...it says 2 different MCE versions...

I think that can only be done via modifying the system file of Zune setup. Anyhow is a simple hack which will make it to work on Windows Media Center 2002 Edition. For that below is a guide link which can provide detail steps about the process. Have a look in the guide below and then check back.

I got it working.

I installed Windows Media Player 11 and it turned out that what I have is a 2005 Media Center Version although it said through My Computer Properties that it's only a 2002.

I lack Service Pack 3, so I installed it. Installed all 100+ updates. Took me the whole day but Zune finally installed and is working!!
