    Unable to open adobe acrobat reader x in VMware thinapp

    I am unable to open acrobat reader x in VMware thinapp. I get an error message stating “cannot run in protected mode”. Whenever I try to open a pdf file. When I turn protected mode off, PDF opens normally.

    No ThinApp have the Acrobat Reader, the reader is only a local application that creates PDF files thinapped.

    Put following current user key in the registry:

    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Privileged   Value=bProtectedMode
      REG_DWORD=#00#00#00#00

    Anyone else has a trouble with the search function and the use of embedded links in the pdf. It works very well when I installed it locally without ThinApp. This only happens on a machine having Windows 7 64-bit .windows XP is fine.

    Try to add few lines in your package.

    Code:
    ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions = Acrobat.exe; AcroRd32.exe
    ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault = Virtual
    In addition to these lines, if your application's file system isolation mode is complete and WriteCopy, then you may need to do more to adjust. We had to position that folder and set it combined. Now I imagine you can open PDF attachments from ThinApp application and Acrobat X is capable to open the files when the application unzip the files to temporary directory. Both Acrobat executable names on the list because some users have Acrobat Reader. This was tested in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
