Acronis TIHome 2011 out now with new build 6868

Acronis has released a NEW BUILD of TIHome 2011, after there was an apparent bug in the last update back the first of June. New Build is 6868 - If you start TIHome 2011 it will tell you there is a newer version and offer to download and install it, OR you can go to your personal account at the Acronis website and download the update as an EXE file to save/archive. At least one symptom of the bug in the earlier update what that all of a sudden you started to get an error message on bootup that a "Backup Validation Task execution failed" message, with NO indication of what software was at the root of the problem. In my case, I did NOT have any validation scheduled nor enabled in TIHome - more annoying than anything else as far as I know, but the update to Build 6868 stopped it from happening.

I've been using Acronis TI Home v11 for years (note that this is v11, not v2011). It has worked reliably under XP, Vista, and now Win 7 64. I use it on my desktop to do scheduled backups to an external, USB 3 drive, and have used it to clone hard drives - I especially like that the latter can be done using the bootable CD. I have tested the backups (including booting from new drives restored from backups) and it has been flawless.

Only reason I know to move to upgrade is if your version of TIHome does NOT have a PLUS PACK available. Plus Pack gives you the ability to create a bootable CD (after jumping thru hoops) that gives you the ability to restore an image to bare hardware (i.e., a replacement computer) and supposedly will install new drivers for the new hardware while doing the restore. When you go to restore using the Plus Pack created bootable CD, it asks you where to look for any needed updated/new drivers/support files.

I also have/had TIHome 11, and I just don't remember if there was a Plus Pack available for it - you might want to check with Acronis and see if that is available - and if the cost is reasonable (and it is available) you might want to pick up the Plus Pack instead of upgrading the entire package, as TIHome 2011 did not come with the Plus Pack, you had to purchase separately (and as far as I know TIHome 2012 also will not come with the Plus Pack - again, an additional purchase).
