Re: Are HomeGroups supported in Windows Server 2008 R2?

Hey keep in mind that Homegroups are existing only in the client OS. The server OS is not intended for home use excluding Windows Home Server. There are numerous characteristics of the client Operating System which are not presented in the server Operating System and also the other way round. They are dissimilar creations which are meant for unlike groups of users. Thus, server Operating System has been designed only for home usage excluding the case of windows home server.

I would like to tell you that if you position 2008 R2 as a workgroup you can go to Network & Sharing and then from there you can move on to Advanced Sharing Settings where you will be able to turn on password confined Sharing, network discovery, file and Printer sharing also the public folder access. For some reason or the other, Microsoft left in the media streaming alternative, nevertheless if you give a try to access it an error is shown.

Hey I would imply you that there are more than a few places which give you an idea that HomeGroup was planned to be added in Windows 2008 R2 at commencement, although they were not added in the closing stages. Even I don?t know what the exact reason was . But, the bottom line is that we have to accept the fact that HomeGroups are not supported in Windows Server 2008 R2. I hope you like my reply.
