calculate units in Projects 2007

Hi,

I'm not sure how to calculate units in Projects, so I'm wondering if someone can help. I have a task duration of 15 days and 5-resources working on the project different days. I have the follwoing resources.

1 IT will work on the project 15-days (100% units)
1 Finance will work on the project 15-days (100% units)
2 Engineers will work on the project 12-days (80% ? please confirm)
1 Project Manager will work on the project 2-days (13% units)

I know I have to divide the number of working days by the duration, for example 12/15=.80, but I am not sure if I have to multiply the result by 2 for the 2 engineers that will work on the task equal times. Please help!

Thanks!

Re: calculate units in Projects 2007

  • You will have to make sure the task is set to AUTO SCHEDULE
  • Double click on the task and click the ADVANCED tab. Set the TASK TYPE to FIXED WORK (see below for definitions) and CALDENDAR to STANDARD (or whatever you want)
  • Type in the name of the TASK (do NOT type in the WORK or DURATION fields)
  • Go the RESOURCE NAMES field and type the names and percentages using the following syntax:
    • name[PercentPersentSign],name[PercentPersentSign],name[PercentPersentSign] and so on
    • Ted[10%],John[40%] This would mean that there will be a total of 4Hr per day worked on the project (8hr day * [40%+10%])
