Blue screen: 0x00000124 and 0x1000007e erases all Settings and cookies in IE8

The other day i was playing some online flash based games and suddenly i got a blue screen of death. I rebooted and i found all my internet settings and cookies were erased. I never touched the same game. I was working on some PDF files, boom! Again the same error. I rebooted, and again all the internet settings and cookies erased. Now everything worked great. Again a day later i was playing alien swarn and again the blue screen and even on this reboot the same problem. Then that day i got the bsod several times. I noticed that every time the bsod occured all my internet settings got erased. I watched closely and the error code was same eveytime. What may be the error codes indicate? Can anyone interpret it for me? The error codes are : 0x00000124 and 0x1000007e

The application or the game you were playing when the problem occured might be the culprit. Many application uses the IE engine to display html content embedded in them. These applications might use IE and would have run it without letting you start it manually. So check if this is the case. Try to update your IE8 if there are any security patches available for it. Most of the times, bsod occurs due to faulty memory. Try replacing your memory and check if this is not the real issue. For a start try to remove and install the memory module again. Helps sometimes and sometimes doesn't but worth an effort.

If you choose to update drivers manually then it would be better to disable Automatic Driver installations from Windows Updates. This will not disable windows updates and it will continue as it used to be. The only change will be that the driver update available by windows wont be downloaded. If Windows Updates suggests you about a newer driver then you can anytime chose to hide it by right click on it. You can also manually search the drivers if you wish too. Many a times bsod occurs due to faulty drivers too. Just check it too.

Even i had a similar issue, but the problem which cause the blue screen was when i was trying to hotswap a hard disk in to my system. I dont know if SATA hard disks can be hotswapped. I have two hard disk. I have the all the latest and newest drivers for all the hardware. Also i have cleaned installed windows from start yesterday. I also ran memtest86+ twice to check if its the problem of my RAM module, but it passed memtest86+ both the times. Any other suggestions?
