How to replace rhythmbox in sound preferences in linux mint

I use rhythmbox application to listen songs in my laptop. Well let me tell you I am not at all impressed with this application. So I am thinking of using some other application to listen to the songs. So I was thinking to use exaile instead of the rhythmbox. So how can I do that, do you have any specific method such that I can change it from rhythmbox to exaile but clicking on the sound icon in that particular notification area.

Well if you have the exaile application installed in the laptop then you can definitely open it. What you have to do is follow these simple steps
    1) Select a song file that you want to open it with the exaile.
    2) Right click on it and select the properties.
    3) In the list of options go to the open with and select the exaile application.
The song will be opened with that particular format. This is a very simple solution. You can go ahead with it.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. It seems that you are not clear with my question. So let me make more clear now. What I was talking about is that whenever you click on the volume icon In the program the sound icon will appear along with the rhythmbox listed there. So whenever we select the rhythmbox it gets activated. What I want is I have to replace it with the exaile. So how can I do that? I hope you have got what I am exactly trying to say.

Yes you can definitely do that. If you are using Gnome then what you have to do is
    1) Go to the menu option
    2) Select the control center.
    3) After that select he preferred applications.
    4) Then go to the multimedia tab.
Ensure that while doing this you have exaile installed in your laptop. If you don’t have it then you can get it from the software manager. After doing all this do not forget to reboot the system.

If you ask me I would advise you to go with the ubuntu tweak if you want. Well it has the feature of enabling file association with certain applications. So I think that will be much better option. Well if you want to stick with the same operating system then what I can advise you to download the exaile application first and then do to the following steps
    1) Open the exaile application.
    2) Go to the edit option and select the preference option.
    3) Then go to the plugins and check the option ‘sound menu indicator’.
    This will definitely help you.
